I’m getting nowhere trying to find an explanation to the Vera Lite LED meaning. I’ve found several older threads addressing the intermittent delays seen when running scenes. I’m getting a bunch of that today.
For example, I have a door sensor which, when tripped, will cause a light in the room to come on. Usually, that light will come on within 1-2 seconds after opening the door. Sometimes, it’ll take more than 5 seconds - at which point the user is already reaching for the wall switch.
I also have a routine that when my Kwikset deadbolt is unlocked (either manually or via PIN), it triggers an action to disarm my alarm system. If NO other activity on the VERA has taken place within a few minutes of me opening the door, it USUALLY works. There may be a 3-4 second delay, but the alarm does manage to disarm before the siren goes nuts. However, if VERA is busy doing anything (i.e. someone somewhere in the house triggers a scene/action) the alarm will not get disarmed quickly enough before the siren starts to go off.
In both of these examples, it’s the the inconsistency of the delay that leaves me (and particularly the wife) asking for alternatives (or regular manual operation).
One thing I’ve noticed lately is that the orange LED on the Vera Lite is staying on. I remember seeing the box running without it on - or blinking when pairing or excluding. But what does it mean when it’s constantly on? Because I think there is a correlation between delayed device action and that LED.
Incidentally, is there anything that can be done to keep the performance of the VERA consistent? When it works fast, it’s a joy. When it doesn’t, it makes you long for the days of no AH…
The orange led staying solid is a good thing. That means the z wave chip is working. Are you using Vera routing? Have you done any recent changes? Other than the lock, other battery powered devices? Sounds like you might have a communication issue with z wave devices and if you just started and don’t have a lot, adding more will help.
Thanks for the reply Wayne. Other than the occasional repair/healing, I haven’t done anything to the network. It’s all bone stock.
I’m up to about 30 devices (in-wall dimmers and switches). I have only three battery-operated devices… all three are the Kwikset locks.
I haven’t added any new physical devices in quite some time - but I have deleted about 6 PLEG devices, and consolidated them into two. All of the routines appear to be working as intended, albeit with a widely-varying amount of delay.
Well sounds like you have enough devices depending on distance. I was having similar issues and my battery powered devices sometimes give me fits but over all things are stable for me now. What I have down is set Vera routing and let it do it’s heal over night. Then I turned it off. I only have it on when I make changes. This has helped keep things stable for me.
Sounds like a good idea. So, I’ll either do another heal, or let it to its thing until I see improvement, then turn off the auto-heal. Thanks.

Blue is power orange is z wave and green is network. All three should be solid once fully up. Red is bad

Yea there is other tricks to help stability. Search the forum for them. You will see lots of posts for delays and such.
