I created this topic just as an area where anyone can share some of the interesting set up that they have in place using Imperihome. I am looking for interesting and creative ways that people have used the plugin or PLEG etc to create interesting activities with wall mounted tablets etc…I am trying to dig deeper into what is possible in terms of more complex logic for scene creation and interaction with the wall mounted tablet. The imperihome plugin is a good start, but I am wondering if there are power users out there that have found ways to extend or take advantage of the functionality in bigger ways…Post any of your implementations here and I would love to discuss…as I am sure others may be as well…
I have not implemented this yet due to a bug in imperihome. While this isn’t meant for a wall mounted tablet, I thought you might get some inspiration from it. So in my master bath, I plan to have a nexus 7 in a dock sitting on a table we have in there. It is not next to the door so using it to turn on lights is not a good use case (nor would I want that in this case). However, I do have leviton switches in there and what I plan to do is when any of the light switches are hit (and eventually when motion is detected), I will have the imperihome plugin turn on that tablet, bring ImperiHome to the front, and turn to a specific dashboard. The dashboard that is chosen could be ultimately affected by:
Time of day
Party Mode scene is active
Humidity in room
Anything that pleg can touch that I could use to determine the best dashboard to go to.
This way, say it’s 9pm and my Fiance goes to take a bath. She walks in the room, turns on the main lights, which in turn turns on the tablet and goes to a dashboard designed for “bathing scenes”. She gets in the tub and she can now select what scene to run, which might include starting up some music, turning the lights down, and so on. (BTW, the table sits next to her clawfoot tub, so it would be in reach). She could also then open up Hulu and/or Netflix and watch a show, or open the Kindle app and read a book…all from within Imerihome (using the application shortcuts).
My next feature request for Imperihome is for it to actually act like a launcher so that clicking the home button takes you to it instead of a home screen. There is one called “Target Launcher” which mimics this and it is what I plan to use for now, but I would just prefer ImperiHome do it natively (as you could have it default to a specific “dashboard” if it is open and you click the home button again, like most launchers do to go back to the default screen).
Anywho… I hope it is something like that you are looking for
If I think of any others, I will surely post back here.
I like the idea. Is there a way that you know of that can incorporate application launches into an actual scene ? I know of the application launch item that you can add to a dashboard, but is there a way to incorporate into a scene an actual execution of any steps. For example. May you want every morning at a certain time, cnn or espn to launch, or perhaps the daily weather to automatically be displayed. I had posted into a separate topic questions around the sayTTS functionality in the plugin. I was hoping to integrate with it somehow so that it could get values to variables and include it into the text being read. For example, maybe each morning it simply gets a temperature variable and announces the current temperature ect…
Thanks for the idea, always interesting to hear how others are implementing things within their home automation setups
Vera alerts and tasker. I think you could do most of that. Before imperihome added the ability to turn on the tablet and bring imperihome into focus I did it all with vera alerts and tasker.
For instance, set up a very alert for “hulu” and tell tasked when it sees an alert with the text “hulu” from vera alerts to open hulu.
You can also look into vera alerts to send the weather info. I think you could accomplish that with vera alerts alone (including tts)

You will have to forgive me as I am still relatively new at all this. I am trying to set up Vera Alerts with the Autovera for tasker. I cannot seem to get it working correctly. Essentially, what I am trying to do is have the vera alerts sent or picked up by my wall mounted tablet. I see the screen shot examples in the documentation for the vera alert apps and I am trying to set it up accordingly, but I can’t seem to figure this out properly. Can someone point me in the right direction in terms of settings for a simple example just for learning purposes. Even a simple example where any notification whatsoever is picked up by the tablet and when it is picked up the tablet would say any text. For some reason when I enter the IP of the tablet into the settings, it is always cleared out and doesn’t remain in the settings…Any screen shots of how you have something set up or an example, or anything really would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks !
