Setting the watts on a binary or dimmer device

I saw there used to be a way to set the wattage use for a specific device like a binary device or dimmer device.

It used to be in the settings location for the device.

I looked but I can’t find a way to set this up anywhere.

Was it removed??? Is there any way to set it up now?

Need to set the variable UserSuppliedWattage in the usual power serviceId.

Eg. http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,30310.msg233600.html#msg233600

Great… Thank you so much. I added the variable in UI7 via Device → Advanced → New Service.

I am not too clear on what on what the difference is between the “New service” and “New variable” fields. Should these be the same values?

No, definitely different things.

New service = urn:micasaverde-com:serviceId:EnergyMetering1

New variable = UserSuppliedWattage

Can I remove a variable I have created??

Not very easily at all. I suggest you leave it, it should do no harm.

I found the post the describes how to remove the variable I put in there. I am going to just leave it though. I don’t see any reason to mess with it.

One last question in regards to the new variable “UserSuppliedWattage”.

I noticed on the documentation (http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Luup_UPnP_Variables_and_Actions) that it says to enter the data different for a thermostat.

“Note: For thermostats, UserSuppliedWattage consists of 3 numbers separated by commas. The default is 1500,1500,300. The first number is how many watts are used when the thermostat is in ‘heat’ mode; the second is how many watts are used when the thermostat is in ‘cool’ mode; and the third number is for the ‘fan only’ mode.”

Is this still correct? Wiki seems a little out of date…

Yes, I think that’s still correct (you’re right, much of the Wiki is out of data, but it’s the best we have!)

I’m not a thermostat user, so can’t check myself.
