Setting temprature in fahrenheit

Hi All,

I’m having problems with my new Vera and a Trane thermostat. I live in the US and everything is in Fahrenheit. After reviewing the logs, it appears my issue is because Vera is converting everything to celsius and sending to to the thermostat in celsius (of course the thermostat is expecting a Fahrenheit temprature). More details below from an email I sent to support, but I’m hoping someone here has an idea? I did a forum search and wasn’t good or lucky enough to turn up any results. I guess I could keep converting F temps to C, but I’m hoping for a “clean” fix. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

----Begin description----

When I issue the command through the vera web interface to change the cooling setpoint to 82 degress F, the logs show that vera is sending a command to change the temp to 28 degrees. Nothing appeared to happen on the thermostat because 28F is an invalid temperature for the thermostat (below freezing).

When I issued a command to change the cooling setpoint to 144 degrees Fahrenheit, it shows in the logs that it is sending a command to change to 62 degrees. I looked at the thermostat and it setpoint did indeed change to 62 degrees.

It should be noted that both my thermostat and vera are set to run in Fahrenheit.

There appears to be an issue/bug with how the system is handling the Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion. It looks like Vera is taking my Fahrenheit temperature and converting it to Celsius and sending the command to my thermostat in Celsius. SInce my thermostat is programmed to work in Fahrenheit this is causing issues.

I am running ui2 .994 vera2 with a trane… no problems setting temps via the web in Fahrenheit or reading them.

I recall awhile back a discussion on this but its been some time. What version firmware are you using?

I am running the latest U13 with 4 Trane thermostats and the F settings work great.

There was an issue with earlier versions of UI3 that added 27 degrees F to what ever you entered. It was fixed in the last firmware update. 1.1.319. I converted to 1.0.994 and it works fine there with a Wayne Dalton Thermostat.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m running 1.0.994.

I saw the issue with the 27 Degrees and I’m 99.9% this isn’t it. I’ve tried setting the setpoints several times and it works if I enter a conversion… Like where I take the temprature I want… say 80F and then convert 80C to F (176 degrees).

If I put 176 degrees in the vera web console, I can tell from the logs that it converts it to Celsius (80) and then relays that to the thermostat. The setpoint shows up on the thermostat as 80F.

If I put in 80F, it gets turned into 26 and relayed to the thermostat as 26. The thermostat balks at this and no change is made.

Hopefully support can shed some light on this issue.

It sounds like a similar issue, but with a different thermostat. Mine was a Wayne Dalton. Everyone using the Wayne Dalton thermostat had to subtract 27F from the temperature they were trying to set. But it got fixed in 994.

I would suggest you send in a support ticket. I also had the +27F problem with WDTC-20 but MCV worked it out after about 2 months!
