Hi
I’ll start by saying I tried this when I first got my vera, about 18 months ago, and then tried again today as well. As long as I’ve had the vera it’s had the default network settings, and the only way I can access it is by going to home.getvera.com, logging in, then clicking ‘connect’, and it connects me to whatever the local IP on the network is. I’ve tried with Internet Explorer and Chrome and get the same result.
I navigated to advanced settings - - > setup - - > net & wifi. Clicked on “Manually configure (Advanced)” and nothing happens.
However, when I click on “Through a Wi-Fi access point”, below the attached image shows up - with all the network options. I can then click back to ‘manually configure’, and the options stay there (however if I click the first option again, ‘automatically configure’, they disappear).
I’ve tried changing options here, but when I click ‘save and apply’ nothing happens - the browser doesn’t even register that I’ve clicked anything.
Two reasons I want to do this -
First, because I want to stop the vera broadcasting that wireless ID.
Second, I noticed today when we lost our internet connection for a few hours, that even LOCAL scenes were not triggering (i.e. I opened the door to the garage, and the garage light didn’t come on. Things that shouldn’t require any internet connection).
Right now the vera is plugged into the home network on the ‘wan’ port.
Is there a newer firmware I can upgrade to where this is fixed? I’m not sure where to start creating a support ticket
Security on these devices has always been a problem - I remember posting something about the security functionality (or lack thereof), and this is one of the first steps (setting a static IP and disabling wifi).
Firmware Upgrade to UI7
There is UI7, which is significantly different in design to what you have and this is been getting better each month with the incremental releases; however, it does have some know errors and you may want to look at the forum if you have critical apps installed.
They have provided additional security options but you need to understand what they are and of course turn them on. Once they are turned on, you will need to log in to your Vera including locally and if you decided to turn them off, this is not always effective.
You should try via http://firmware.getvera.com/ or raise a support ticket, if you are not certain.
For the latest info see http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,31785.0.html
They have also included new training video on UI7 Ezlo Innovation - YouTube
Firmware Downgrade to UI5
UI5, is an earlier version of firmware but is more stable and better supported than UI6 or UI7. However, depending on whether or not a flag is set in your unit, it may automatically upgrade agains and to have the flag removed, you, guess what? need to raise a support ticket.
