Setting a Fixed IP Address

Can anyone tell me how to set a fixed IP address for a Vera2? I have home network that is both wired and wireless, with 2 workstations, a storage device and vera connected by cables as well as several devices that connect wirelessly (TV, Wii, phone, IPad). The problem I am having is that Veras IP will change from time to time, depending on what is connected during the latest reboot. My wife, who is not a techie, has trouble loading the interface if its not at the same IP address each time.

I would like to establish a fixed IP address, but I’m not sure how to go about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

kartcon,

Your router (the one that is serving an IP address to Vera) may have a setting called “DHCP reservations”. This is where you can tell the router to always hand out the same IP address to Vera every time it asks for one. You need Vera’s 12-character MAC address (usually written in pairs with colons between). This is normally printed on the physical hardware somewhere. Make up the IP address, picking something still inside the LAN range but not the same as any of your other devices. Reboot the router, then Vera, to make it stick.

IMO this is a better option than setting Vera’s IP address to static. Not only do DHCP reservations not require the cooperation of the device but you still get other DHCP-set options like DNS and the router IP address.

Ask me if you get stuck.

Thanks to all who responded. I did get it set up, thanks to all your help.
