Security project - External motion triggered speaker

Hi

We have had a couple of attempted breakins recently and so I am working on ways to try and scare them off before they even try. I have some decent external motion sensors now at strategic places, linked to my DSC alarm, and can detect anyone in the vicinity to trigger actions. I currently have lights being triggered and can also trigger a Sonos in the garage to play a warning. Using a sonos for this is not ideal though and it sounds a bit muffled. I would like to try and find a more elegant solution - ideally an external speaker that I can install and play warnings through. Anybody done anything similar or come across any devices that might suit?

Thanks

You could use a Sonos Connect and hook up whatever speakers you want to that. You would be able to access those via the Sonos plugin.

You could use one of the amplifier brands supported by plugins but I am not sure if that gives you the abiliity to stream sound or TTS via them but perhaps the DLNA plugin can fix that.

I tried Yamaha’s Music flow but that system is way to immature to be of much use… The hardware is not bad but the firmware and software are far from mature. Making the system of little use.

Wow, a Sonos in the garage! I am still trying to justify the cost of a Sonos in the house.

Yeah all the options are a bit pricey. I guess I could dismantle a Sonos and hardwire an external speaker from it to outdoors. Maybe i can get a cheap blown one off ebay or something

Hmm interesting. Looks like a Play 1 can be mod’ed to be powered by Battery… Now got me thinking about a solar powered garden sonos that can double up as a security speaker ;D

I had the same idea. I used a Technaxx Musicman MA soundstation with a Fibaro switch. In case my sensor triggers, the Fibaro switch enables power to this MP3 player and my E-dog (put a WAV file of a large dog in the USB port) start barking. Works great.

I have an old android phone with vera alerts.

Vera alerts play a sound ( only on that phone) when it is triggered by a motion sensor.

works fine and is cheap.

I finally broke down 6 months ago when I found a duo pack of Play1’s for $280 NIB. They’ve justified themselves to me by now. The same scene that switches on the lights when my alarm goes off, gives me a few minutes to wake up and then has Sonos read me a WU weather report. After which my HTS switches on to radio for traffic etc. I found the radio station I use for that also to be available streamed so that scene will probably leave the HTS off and stream the station through my Play 1’s instead. I have 1 covering the living area and adjacent master bed room and the other covering my home office area on the other side of the house. I cannot justify putting one in the garage. Although if I can find another duo pack for $280 I’ll most likely get it and turn both existing setups into stereo.

Aeon MiniMotes work great with Sonos. I have 3 in various rooms solely to control Sonos. weather, off and 6 Pandora stations. Granted, I picked those up for around $15 a piece.

Could I have a link to that pretty please ?

Living with multiple GSD that are indoor dogs, no need for an electronic one. They do a great job of barking and also provide a visual deterrent though the window.
