Searching Network Camera (vera2;3), power over ETH and One WLAN, any hint?

Hi all,

I am New to the Tonic Video on Vera.

Have some different planend usage.

  1. a Place wehre no power Plug in is available therefore I Need power over Ethernet
  2. some WLAN Places

Are there any recommendations?
So I need a Special Switch?

You’ll either need a PoE capable switch or a PoE injector to supply PoE to a capable camera.
We use several at work via PoE which are made by Axis. Those are not cheap though. An outdoor dome one in use that has hipower zoom, rang up at almost 3 grand. It’s one used in eg Saudi Arabia with a dome that is resistant to sand storms.
We could actually read the tag on a vehicle parked over 500 feet away.

You can make your own PoE as long as you use equipment that is 10/100Mb as those only use pins 1 to 4. Leaving 5 to 8 as double pairs for power and gnd for PoE.

Are the axis compatibile with the vera?

I don’t know if the Axis are compatible. My boss would not loan me the $3K one for the weekend. :slight_smile: Actually he only had it for the day to configure it and then it went to our site in the southwest. The other ones were installed before I joined and I don’t feel like lugging Vera to work for the day and losing control of the house.

Axis cameras do work with Vera for snap shot and streaming. The only thing I don’t have working is ptz control. I am running there cameras and video servers.
