Schlage Wireless locks

Hi,

I do not own one of those yet, but I was curious. Can they “lock” the door for real from vera ? I mean not only lock the system where you would need to enter a code, but physically lock the door, so I do not have to run around the house to lock all external accesses ?

Thank you !

The Dead Bolts can NOT actuate the deadbolt, but only allow someone standing there to actuate it from the outside if you want to let them in, and can allow you to create scenes based on who comes and goes…

The Schlage lever locks CAN be locked and unlocked via Vera and have all the other features that the deadbolt has.

Kwikset is supposedly going to be offering z-wave deadbolts with a motorized throw this summer. MCV has been announced as one of there partners.

They currently have these models with a ZigBee radio:

I’ve installed the non-zwave kwikset deadbolt and the motor doesn’t always retract the deadbolt far enough

and it eats through batteries much quicker than the Schlage lock

If Schlage improves it’s product…it has a superior design mechanically

I have been using 3 schlage lever locks for over a year and they work great, You can lock/unlock them from vera and yes they physically lock/unlock the door so you don’t have to run around. Just make sure your lock is within 15-20 feet of vera or node capable of relaying “beam” command (something like schlage light module, or most of new ge/act z-wave stuff)

@axan

Just curious, but do you use only lever locks for exterior doors? I know that the best practice for securing exterior doors is to use a deadbolt or maybe that’s what we’ve always been told.

deadbolts are generally better. But it’s not like they are the be all end all.

My folks had a friend who had an alarm system in the 70’s before motion detectors were common. So all his doors and windows were all alarmed. Thieves cut a hole through the wall of his attached garage to get in.

So i figure most times the deadbolt isn’t going to be enough anyway for a determined thief.

Obviously some will be dissuaded by a deadbolt, but probably well lit doorways, motion detector lights, an “alarm” sign or sticker all probably stop just as many. In any end a determined their probably laughs at it all.

I love the convenience of the lever, and for me, having a deadbolt surrounded by glass doors and windows makes no sense at all.

Good point. Both the lever and deadbolt are well built and the lever is definitely a nice “upgrade” to a regular knob. One of my doors has a window, so I will definitely get a lever for it. Unfortunately, my door holes are 4.5" apart and not the standard 5.5". I would need to get a hole cover for the deadbolt hole, but no big deal.

Yes i Use the lever lock even on my exterior doors, there is a glass next to the door anyway so if someone really wants to get in they will.

I post this response only to illustrate my own ignorance that has been a source of frustration:

I have vera2 and about 10 outlet and switch devices and two thermostats. I was recently in a Lowes
saw the Schlage display and decided to add a couple of the deadbolt locks. I look around at the display
and buy two deadbolts that are pictured on the Schlage Brochure and Display.

I than spend the last 30 -45 days on an off trying to get them paired… reading all the posts on this
board I believe it is a firmware issue, a UI3 issue…

No it is a Lowes merchandising issue and my ignorance. You would think that Lowes would
stock ZWave Locks similar to those two feet away on the Schlage Display. They do NOT. The locks
they sell look identical from the front of those pictured on the brochure and display but do not
contain ZWave capabilities. In fact, after figuring this out I wasn’t able to special order them but
was able to order online.

I understand most Lowes stores perhaps all do not carry the ZWave Locks… even though
they picture the system in the lock aisle.

Now that’s frustrating. In contrast, my Lowe’s in Long Beach has been stocking all the Schlage Link products for about a year, and recently added 7 GE Z-wave products to the display.

It seems like SF Bay Area Lowe’s stores carry the full Schlage Link kit (lock, gateway, and lamp module). The add-on lever and deadbolt are only available online.

I did the same thing as Jaquade and if it wasn’t for my wife begging me to call Schlage support before i started crying I would still be trying to pair a non-zwave lock and really sad…Lowes people were great but had no idea what I was trying to do and even re-keyed the wrong lock…they don’t carry brass deadbolts at any Tampa lowes >:(

Glad to know I wasn’t the only one… After months of problems I received my
Schlage Z-Wave Locks. Installed and paired them in a matter of minutes…
months of frustration gone.
