Schlage Lock is showing current Temperature

I just noticed that my Schlage Lock is showing current Temperature? Vera 1 (979), via “Find Vera”. Anyone else seeing this.

  1. Is this a new lock that started showing this from the start.
    OR

  2. Is this an exsiting lock that for unknown reasons started reporting temperature

  3. Is the temperature correct???, or just bogus data.

This lock has been service since the first of the year. Since the lock is 800+ miles away I cannot answer that question, but it is very close to what my Trane thermostats are reading (± 2f). What’s interesting is that the temperature is displayed on the locks main page. For that to happen I would guess that some type of code had to be written.

cool…I have to touch the outside of my Schlage lock to get the temp. :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you made any changes to your Zwave network?

Any firmware updates/changes

I have seen this after a network change or a update.

No I have not made any changes in several months, I even have Vera and the router on a battery backup. The internet connection is via fiber to the house.

My Aeon labs D/W sensor also shows temp, but it’s not a temp sensor, so who knows… Just one of the many little issues that needs to be cleaned up.

I’ve had battery level displayed by powered devices like switches etc and also some battery devices displaying Watts.

Bearing in mind that most of these devices probably use the same Zensys chipset, which may already have either some of the hardware on board to do this, or perhaps all of it?

There were some posts in the past I think where people had this from Switches etc also.

I have the same thing. No clue when it showed up. Haven’t really made any significant changes. Weird.

Can you give us a screen shot? Sounds interesting.

I too had this happen when I updated my UI2 to the latest firmware.
There was a feature listed to show temperature from certain devices listed.
As was mentioned earlier, the temp might be a feature of the chip used in the device but not officially supported, but Vera knows how to get it.
All of the devices that oddly now show temp appear to be correct.

It would be interesting to know if anyone who is having this happen with not have a temperature device in the Vera. It may be a bug where the temperature device’s reading is just being repeated on other devices.

Maybe get a bag of ice or frozen peas and put them on the lock for a while. If the temp decreases then it shows the lock maybe has the hardware to show it.

My Aeon Labs D/W sensor shows 41F, constant - and I have other sensors like the 3-in-1 motion and the Fortrezz WWA-02/03 model and those both show the correct temp.

I just threw those 2 devices in the freezer for a little while and surprisingly they reported temp just fine through the freezer door. These temp readings are just wacky code showing up in the UI. MCV needs to get these fixed, lets hope they chime in.

is it possible that the two devices are sharing the same node ID.
In other words could either device have been excluded and re included an thus being assigned the wrong node

Does the temp ever change?

When and by how much might be a good indicator of what it is pulling the data from, if at all. Can you set a notification to email you when/if it changes?

Yes it has changed

Curious, did it change to match an existing thermostat temperature (cross reading) or is it changing to read a unique value to itself?

not sure the lock is on the back door of my garage. it seams to be tracking something, it could the inside of the lock. the garage is not conditioned, the temps could very well be the inside temp of the garage. i won’t be back the the house until the end of October.

We will be looking forward to your discovery. Has anyone else been able to reproduce this effect of getting a Schlage lock to display temperature. Would be interesting to test independently.
