Schlage lock -- interesting

So I have tried a new set up and had some interesting findings. Minus the fact that most of you have had a hard time getting these locks set up with Vera, I have been fortunate to get both the deadbolt and and handle set lock working just fine. Grant it, I think I have the dongle that hasn’t had any issues to date (knock on wood)

Anyway, I was seeing if it was true to in fact make a code entered on the handleset lock activate a “scene” that would unlock the deadbolt. It was successful. The code enter on the handleset allowed for an “unlock” command to be sent to the deadbolt and in a sense unlock both locks with one code. The commands have definitely increased in speed with each release in the firmware, but still found myself holding the handle down so it wouldn’t “re-lock” itself. I would say anywhere from 5-7 seconds from inputting code the deadbolt would unlock.

This is where it was interesting. It would only work if I entered the code into the handle set. I set the same scene up but in reverse. I tried to enter the code into the deadbolt and in a sense hoping it would send an unlock command to the handleset… no such luck. I find it interesting that it would work one way, but not the other.

Anyway, just thought I would share my findings for those who like the extra security in having two locks on a door.

Here is a picture of the set-up.

No shortage of security there !

What I find funny, and your not the only one to say it, but I can set a scene to unlock my handle lock. Don’t have a deadbolt.

Yeah I guess the big thing I thought was a “security issue” was that scenes were unable to control these locks. Obviously this is not the case, unless I am missing something. Anyway, it does what I need it to do.
