In the process of setting my father’s home up with z-wave stuff, we installed the Schlage Deadbolt and lever lock. I own kwikset hardware, so the Schlage stuff is new to me. I do have a few questions that I can not see to find on the forum or in the crappy schlage manuals. For the lever lock, is there a way to lock the lock from the outside of the lock? I can not figure this out. The lever lock will lock from pressing the buttons on the inside of the lock, but curious to know if this can be done from the outside? I know I can do this with the kwikset locks. Another questions is, I can not seem to lock the lever lock with the physical key. Is this not possible?
Garett,
I’ll admit, you had me a bit puzzled about the ability to electrically ‘lock’ the lever lock from outside. I had never even thought about it before.
No, it does not appear to be possible. I have 3 Schlage lever locks in my house, and have had them since they were released. The need has never arisen to press a button to lock one of the locks from outside. I just press the ‘lock’ button from the inside, or use my iPhone.
As for using the key to lock the lock, yes, you should be able to do that. Sounds like mechanically something wasn’t installed just right.
Good luck with it. I’m sure you’ll figure out the key locking issue in short order.
Personally, I think the Schlage locks are built much better than the Kwikset locks. I expect that they’re more durable long term. The Kwikset locks have a nicer look to them though. And of course, there’s no substitute for a powered deadbolt.
I have to admit one thing with these Schlage locks, they seem more responsive to status updates then the Kwiksets. Not sure if others notice this or not. But I wish my Kwiksets would update like these. I have issues with my Kwikset deadbolt telling vera that the lock was manually unlocked!
