After upgrading my VeraEdge to 1.7.2139, my Schlage deadbolt now has a “Can’t Detect Device” banner on the dashboard, and indeed I cannot control it from the UI.
[ul][li]The battery in the Schlage deadbolt is fresh[/li]
[li]The device is turned on and working[/li]
[li]It still works as a trigger for a scene I previously created (unlock front door → turn on circulation pump)[/li]
[li]It does not work however as part of another scene I previously created (“goodnight” button on remote → lock front door)[/li][/ul]
Maybe you don’t want to hear it… but you joined a club. Sorry… there is a very large topic about the can’t detect device issue which is introduces as a feature in UI7.
Yep. ever since my conversion to UI7 I’ve seen bouts of this. Devices will suddenly go undetectable and just as suddenly back service later in the same day.

I am running for club president. I have 7 controllers in different locations. Like a fool, I upgraded them all. Now I have 7 locations that do not work. 6 Schlage and 1 Kwikset lock. All report “Can’t detect device” most of the time. Even when they can detect the device, they won’t control them correctly. Called Vera and their answer is that I need to reset everything back to factory and re-pair and them. She said that they haven’t had any problems reported with the upgrade. She didn’t think the fact that they all failed immediately after upgrading had anything to do with the software.
I’m tired of testing Vera software for them. Especially since they don’t ever respond to problems.
Has anybody here tried the smartthings hub? I’m ready to find a company that at least has some community support that can fix things instead of relying on a couple of software engineers that don’t even bother to test the software before they release it.
Well I tried to un-enroll, then re-enroll the lock, following the manufacturer’s instructions. I tried several times, every time the device indicated failure. But when I looked at the web interface, the lock was back. So somehow it started working again.

I had the same idea. But based on discussions on various SmartThings and home automation forums I think that their system has similar issues as Vera. It seems that simple, reliable home automation is still just a dream.
I had to take mine out of the door, sit it by the controller unenroll reenroll and it worked after a couple tries…Yay.
But Wait! 3 days later and it isn’t working again. The lock worked perfectly for over a year.
Trying to figure out if I should upgrade from Edge to Plus and or buy a new/different lock.
My Edge has also been going offline many times a day for no discernible reason…I know if it does go down if I am pushing to hard on the interface trying to get the lock to communicate as an example.
Just nutz. Same issue with 2 identical Schlage Deadbolts (BE369). Used without issue since I initially used the Vera Edge (UI 5). Now upgraded to VeraPlus (UI 7 - version 1.7.2138) and both deadbolts giving the same error message. Interestingly, the log does show the Device Changed state when I unlock the door. Indicating that some form of communication is working.
Does seem like a software issue since two locks and only happened upon upgrade to VeraPlus. At that point, repaired every device… took ages.
I wonder if it could be routing or less than stable Zwave mesh . Maybe some devices that should be providing secure repeating of the Schlage are not with how UI7 works now. (routing changes?). Almost all my devices are Linear, GE, and Aeotec… maybe some are better at repeating than others ?
Is anyone with a fresh install having this issue? I currently have a Vera 3 on UI5 but I’m contemplating starting from scratch with a Vera Plus. I’m wondering if some of these quirks are related to upgrade bugs.
