I was starting to be satisfied with my vera2; turning lights on/off, dimming them while away for couple of hours. I tried to create a scene before going on a 7-day cruise. I tested the scene for 3 days before my actual vacation. the first day, the lights were turned on and off as scheduled. however on the 2nd day, they remained on until morning. i set them to turn on at 22 hours (8 pm) and off after 3 hours (11 pm). i reset them in findvera.com hoping it will fix the bug. it was frustrating that it happend again in the 3rd day. today before we go on vacation, i will be using the regular timer that i bought from home depot for $12.
Question for you, are you turning the lights off by using the ON “After 3 hours” OFF method, or do you have a separate scene that goes in and turns them off afterwords? If the you are using the “after 3 hours” method, do you have any other scenes or actions (perhaps a motion sensor, etc) that might be turning the lights on/off independant of the timer scene?
I’ve never experienced an issue like the one you are describing, but I’m sure the community can help you. We just need a litte more information on how you are going about it.
Thanks
fall-line is correct, if you interact with the lights during that 3 hours the scene will not turn them off; this is by design. Also, if Vera reboots during the 3 hours (power outage, crash, etc) the lights would not get turned off either. If you always want them to be turned off you need a second scene.
For what it’s worth, I accomplish this by having one scene to turn things ON and another to turn them off. That way it 's easy for me to adjust the timing in one place, rather than having to adjust the “after X hours” setting for every device. It also protects against the situation where you interact with the lights manually or via other methods.
Which firmware version are you on? That sounds like what mine was doing when it first shipped, most of the time it would work fine, but then it wouldn’t fire a timer. Firmware upgrade fixed it, I don’t recall which release I was on, but it was UI2.
thanks for all your responses. dont know the firmware version. i purchased vera2 about a month ago. i just created a simple GLOBAL SCENE, and the timer set to monday to sunday (all week) to turn the lights in the living room and family room at 2200 hours (8pm). in the command field, i set the family room on at 75% dim and after 4 hours turn if off. in the living room, i also set it on at 75% but turn it off after 3 hours. so both rooms will turn on at the same time at the same level which is at 75%. the only difference is the time they will turn off; one will be off after 4 hours and the other after 3 hours. but i think you were right, i manually tested it from my iphone by turning them on and off before 8 pm. thanks.
I use a hybrid approach. I turn lights on at sunset, leave them on for varying times through the commands in that scene, then use an “All Off” second scene as a failsafe. So lights go off at different times but all will be shut down at 11 PM no matter what happens. Good luck!!
I have experienced this situation many times. Most recently, I have consistantly been having this issue with scenes that turn a device ON and then OFF after .
My problem was that my Vera router was rebooting itself (And loosing the after setting) every 1 - 1.5hrs. I updated my firmware and it resolved the reboot issue.
To determine your up-time, either go to advanced options (How you get there depends on your UI version) and locate “Uptime” OR SSH to your Vera and simply use the “uptime” command.
When I was having my problems I never had an uptime of more than 90min. You can watch for this over a period of time by refreshing the page or re-running “uptime”
Good luck!!
I too was having the same problem using the off after xx amount of time, and was advised to set up a separate scene to turn them off at a time. So far been working fine,
Renado,
2200 hrs is 10pm…not 8pm. 8pm is 2000 hrs on a 24 hr clock… Probably just a typo but I thought I’d mention it in case
your scenes aren’t set for the times you think they are set for…
tim
twells5, you are right, it’s a typo, 8pm is 2000 hours not 2200. anyway this forum is very effective and helpful and i intend to contribute to this community. fall-line and mickholczer are correct; i did manually interface with the system by testing the global scene through my iphone and that caused the lights not to turn off. now, i took the regular timer out of the way and put back the plug in light receptacle from “home setting”. from what i gathered from you guys, the only problem that would cause for the lights not to turn off is if my vera router reboots. and i understand what everyone is saying to create a second scene to turn off the light. thanks again.
