Router

I currently have a 2 to 3 year old router. I’m trying to decide whether to get vera 3 and use it as my router or get vera lite and buy a new router. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

In all honesty, I would get the vera lite and get a dedicated router.

Seconded. Routers are dirt cheap, and they don’t draw much power. Vera3 can do that job, sort of, in a pinch, but it doesn’t excel at it.

Edit: specifically, Vera3 doesn’t route IPv6, which is going to matter before you replace your next router. Vera3 isn’t gigabit Ethernet. Vera3 isn’t dual-band wireless. Plenty of routers do all of this and more.

Just to clarify…do you suggest vera lite with a dedicated router (meaning I have 1 router for vera and 1 for home network)? Thanks for the help.

One router for the whole network will do. No need for separate routers.

personally, I went for the Vera Lite, I had a good router and didn’t want to replace it. besides. it’s a hassle to bring the whole network down just to move the vera around for device inclusions and what not

I wouldn’t use the Vera as my primary router. It’s a fairly weak router, and why have it do double duty? I have a Vera 2 which I use as an access point for my security cameras only, connecting them directly to the Vera to make that connection easy. But everything else is router by a high end home router.

I agree wit capjay. I’d hate to bring down the entire network every time I reboot, move, etc.
