RFXtrx433E and KAKU doorbell

I am trying to trigger a scene in my Vera Edge, when my KAKU doorbell is pushed.
It is an older type, with a housecode dial switch.

But I cannot find a way to pair with the doorbell switch in one way or the other.
Is it possible at all to “read” the doorbell pushbutton , and next step trigger a scene with it (e.g. switch on the lights) ?

I have a RFXtrx433E unit connected to the Vera Edge, and I can control KAKU light switches from it already,
but sofar no luck with the doorbell.

Any hint in the right direction would be appreciated…

For KAKU devices with address code wheels you have to enable the ARC protocol in the RFXtrx433E.

Thanks, yes I did that.
But if I push the button the doorbell unit, how can I receive and pair that signal, so that I can use it later to trigger a scene ?
Also: how can I activate the the wireless doorbells from the RFXtrx433E.
I looked and searched (google and this forum) a lot, but can not find the answer.
The manual of the RFXtrx433E only mentions that they are compatible with KAKU…

At the end of the first message of the original topic you have a list of triggers and the relative scene numbers. The one for your need is certainly one of the CHIME ones.

I have the feeling it was already explained a million of times how to do with such a doorbell. Doing s search with doorbell or CHIME in this forum section, you should find several explanations.

So what I understand sofar, is that the signal of the doorbell transmitter triggers a certain scene ?
Of course I would not post a question in any forum before I searched on the terms and also googled for possible solutions.
And I could not find any explanation how to do this. There are bits and pieces in several posts, and also on sites like vesternet, some are partly related to my question, but none of them seems to be complete for this purpose.

Maybe I miss an important manual or guideline, that belongs to the RFXtrx433E unit. The manual that I saw describes that it is compatible with a lot of devices of many manufacturers.
But I can not read anywhere an A to Z story e.g. how to pair such a device from a certain manufaturer via RFXtrx433E to the Vera Edge, to be able to control it.

Of course I will keep on searching, and try to combine the info to a complete story, but any help to find one of those “million explanations how to do with such a doorbell” would be greatly appreciated.

When I first started using Vera in combination with the RFXtrx module, around one year ago, the KAKU doorbell was not supported yet. I forgot about it, but a few days ago I read that the newer versions of the plugin should support it, via a triggered scene.

So I updated the plugin to the latest version, pressed the doorbell, and one new device was created: a scene controller. I then created a scene in Vera, which is triggered by a specific scene number from this device. The LuaUPNP log file mentions the scene number when you press the doorbell again, or you can just try some (I think it should be between 131 and 146. The scene number depends on the house code you selected on the doorbell. My house code is “L”, and the scene number was 138.

You can now program any action in the scene. I am triggering a photo capture from an IP-camera and a notification to my phone (via VeraAlerts).

Hope this helps!

My feedback (after a long time I picked up this topic again):
@mvzut:
Thanks for the explanation, I made good progress but I am a bit puzzled about the final step:

When the doorebell was pushed, a new device was mad by the RFXtrx433: RFX L1.1/M remote
I looked in VERA Altui, there I could see in the list of devices that it has a variable:
sl_SceneActivated 138
So I guess that is the scene number that is connected to it.
But where is scene 138 ?
Or did it go wrong when the doorbell was detected as a Remote in stead of a scene controller ?
I am wondering what to do next ?

Hi mtx123 it is not a problem that your doorbell push button turned up as a “remote” and if you were able to identify the button to scene number 138 then you should be able to trigger something in Vera when scene 138 is activated for the “remote” device, like a notification or something.

According to the list of scenes from this post → http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,9563.0.html scene numbers 131-146 are CHIME (ARC protocol only).

@korttoma :
Thanks for quick reply…
Now things start to connect (in my head)…
So this scene 138 is connected to the RFX remote,
now I make a new scene (let’s say : scene 35 doorbell pushed),
in that scene 35 I use a trigger called :
L1.1/M Deurbel (#0-275) A scene is activated sl_SceneActivated = 138

I was completely looking in the wrong direction, trying to find scene 138 somewhere and edit that.
But now I think this is the “chain”:

Doorbell pushed → RFXtrx receives RFX remote L1.1 signal → triggers (virtual ?) scene 138 → scene 138 triggers scene 35.
And in scene 35 I can add all kinds of actions.

I am going to test this tonight…

Yes you add your remote and scene number as a trigger when you create your Vera scene.

My Nexa doorbell button sends out scene number 100 but I use PLEG so I have defined it as an Input to my PLEG condition.

It works like a charm !! Thanks !
I set it up as described in my previous post, and added an action to flip a virtual switch, and send a notification.

Next I am going to try to send a IP camera snapshot (with Vera Alerts) to see on my smartphone who pushed the doorbell.

It has worked nicely for a few weeks, and I coupled it to Veralerts successfully.
But now we got already a few times a “false” message, so a message that the doorbell was pushed, but it wasn’t…
Proof for that is that the wireless Kaku doorbell in house did not sound.

Doorbell pushed → RFXtrx receives RFX remote L1.1 signal → triggers (virtual ?) scene 138 → scene 138 triggers scene 35.

But apparently scene 35 was triggered, could this be caused by another KaKu system in the neighbourhood ?
In that case I would expect that also myKaku doorbell would sound…
