RF controlled ceiling fans

I recently purchased new ceiling fans that are only controlled by RF remotes (light, 3 stage fan speed). Has anyone seen an RF interface/control unit that I could set up to control these fans from Vera? I haven’t seen anything like it in my reading.

Cheers

Big Mac: when you find one, let us know! Right now, Z-wave in the US has an extreme paucity of devices and controls.

Leviton has a magnetic switch with variable speeds to control the Fan. I use my ipod along with my cooper hand held to control the fans.

Yeah, but it’s only half a solution. It has no light control or reverse direction control - stuff you can find on any $30 fan switch or remote. Maybe someday a real solution will come along.

CMRancho: “paucity” is my new word for the day!

As for a solution, I have no experience with anything like this… but, if something like a HomeLink remote can be programmed to simulate garage remotes, then there must be a way to hack something together. I’ll let you know when my creation is complete!

It seems tome that the best hack would be to hack the fan to bypass the radio in the fan, finding a way to just tie through power, then control it via the Z-Wave switch mentioned. This gets rid of exisitng remotes, but that could be a bonus if you are trying to have a single unified remote for everything.

Or find a board that controls contact closures with relays via USB and write a Luup plug-in for it, then open a remote and map all of the buttons to contact closures on the board with solder and wire.

The first suggestion sounds easier.
