[Review] Remotec zxt-120 z-wave to IR Air Conditioner controller

You keep parameter 27 as it is “000” all the time
For each command i suggest you add parameter “25” with a value from 0 to 22
for the next command you delete the previous line and re add parameter “25” and so on

Hello All! I recently purchased a vera lite, and would like to say thanks for all the great information here. I have purchased two of these ZXT-120 units with the intention that they would control my window shakers. I have 2 Frigidaire window units. I thought this would at minimum be able to turn these units on and off based on time schedule. It appears that I have gotten the device to apparently learn the code as it does the single flash before learning and the double flash afterwards. It is at this point that I am stumped, vera/UI5 returns that the configuration of the device has failed. I am not sure where to go from here. I must be missing something. Can anyone point me in a direction? Thanks!

I finally have my ZXT-120 back, i have Version 1.4 now. I have tried all the new built in codes with my Daikin AC. 2 of them sort of work. I can switch the AC on or off, but it only comes on in Fan mode low, i cannot set it to high via the Vera. So i tried learning, i managed to learn with the V1.0 which i had before, but i cannot remember how i have done it. I keep trying, but it does not learn. I have set parameter 27 to 000 (tried 2 byte dec and 4 byte dec), press save, that works, flashes twice which suggests its in learning mode. Now i go back into device options, (tried 1 byte dec and 2 byte dec), add parameter 25, desired value 1, press save, wait for the zxt to flash, point the remote at it, and it flashes 6 times. What am i doing wrong ?

I finally got some ZXT-120s to control my Mitsubishi Mr Slim split units after some hesitation due to mixed reviews in this thread. I’m actually impressed with these little devices. They work well, and can be powered by batteries or USB. Their Z-Wave range is good for a battery-powered device. I managed to find a few working codes. They don’t do everything (can’t change fan speed, but it does cooling, heating and power off. Also can control “swinging” using a configuration variable).

capjay,

Since I also have a Mitsubishi, and would like swing control, I have to ask you how you did it (the swing control variable)!!
I think the swing that I have with zxt120 is the “auto/default”, something that would be nice to change…

+1! I have two Mitsubishi mini splits I need to get better control over!

Is there a list of codes or supported A/Cs out there? I have a Panasonic re9-pke and a cheapy Maiko that I would like to control with this device, and given the hefty price tag I’d like to have some more certainty before I buy

If you go on the Remotec website somewhere i think under support or downloads, you find user manuals and a list of brands and the codes for them, but unfortunately not individual units. So you get 10 or 20 codes per brand which you can then try…

Sometimes all codes designed for the brand you have ending not working at all, but you always can use the universal programing.

that did not work for me either, i could not get learning to work at all (see my earlier post in this thread)

the manual and list of codes are here: http://www.remotec.com.hk/zaspx/support.aspx , depends on which version you get (v1.4 is the latest). It also has IR learning capabilities in case your AC is not there.

My ZXT-120 is v1.4, they list many codes for Mitsubishi models, the one that worked with mine best was code 326 under “MITSUBISHI Electric”. Remember to change the variable, save, reload, and wait a bit for vera to configure the device with the new value!

In my case, swing is on by default. The manual for v1.4 mentions that that swing is controlled by variable #33, where 0 = SWINGOFF, 1 = SWINGAUTO (Default). Not sure about older versions of the device, but the link above has manuals for all versions.

In the user manual for the ZXT120 it looks as if it has the capability to control fan speed.

Has that been implemented, can i use that in any way in Vera ?

I set up my ZXT120 to work with a Panasonic airco. Working fine as far as fan speed, mode, and temperature is concerned, but I haven’t been able to disable the fan swing either with that parameter. No biggie though.

So, the general consensus is that this device is working now for at least the basic functions?

Well, I have had it for over a year now, always working, but it will be down to your particular heatpump/AC unit. And make sure that you don’t end up with older firmware when/if purchasing, since this will limit even further.

The learn mode seams very complicated, many has had problems with it, but it is reported working afaict.

Basically, I think you will have to try, so purchase the zxt from where it is easiest to return it, should it not mate with your unit.

Have had mine working for 6 months with Fujitsu split, controlled via my HVAC PLEG, with no problems in the sunny!! UK. Basic functions as don’t have the latest firmware.

David

Just received mine today v1.4 , installed with no problems , can’t control swing though , my AC is SHARP

did you try variable 33 as mentioned in an earlier post? or try other codes for Sharp.

no , didn’t see this post , will look for it .

I was happy to get it working that i’m afraid to mess it up , will try this tonight and let you know .
