according to the manual it’s possible to learn the IR codes: http://www.remotec.com.hk/photos/software/Z-wave/ZXT-120%20User%20Manual_V1.0_20120914.pdf
I’ve tried the learn procedure, but have not had any luck with that either. I could be doing something wrong. My next step is to enlist the help of my son who is a systems administrator for one of the school districts here on Long Island.
First you should try to test the codes that are already in the device.
In my case, Mitsubishi, it meant a lot of trying to find the correct one. Also, make sure that you have the correct list, the different versions have different lists.
I think the manual suggests on/off, which is a good start. Look in Vera UI to see that the zxt-120 has accepted the transmission request before changing, and trying the next one.
Input the code from the list in device options-> desired value, using variable 27.
It was some time now, since I did this (living in northern Europe, they may be more common over here(?)), but if I can help, just ask!
I am also having a hard time with the learning function. I want to use this to control my IR Fan as well as the AirCon.
Anyone managed to get the learning functionality to work with Vera 3? I have v1.1 ZXT 120
Okay, it wasn’t easy but with the help of my son, he did manage to get the zxt-120 to talk to my Panasonic mini split. At this time the only thing I’m able to do is turn the unit on and off in heat mode. I’m actually pretty happy with that considering the trouble I was having getting this thing configured. The best I can tell anyone looking to do the same is as follows. First of all, let me say that I have version 1.2 and at this time there is not a code list available. We did however, try all the codes for version 1.1, but none of them worked for me. Now of course the first thing you have to do is get the unit included in your VERA network. That was the easy part. After the inclusion process, you will need to go to the “Device options tab”. Next click on “Add configuration settings” and enter parameter #27, byte 2 dec and 000 for desired value. You will then need to “X” out of that page, Save and continue. Watch the led on the top of the zxt-120 to confirm that it did receive the new configuration. This should take less than a minute. The 000 puts the unit into learning mode. Once that is complete the next step is to click on “Add configuration settings” again and enter parameter #25, byte 2 dec and 0 for desired value. You will then need to save, continue and confirm that the zxt-120 did receive that configuration. You will then point your remote at the top of the zxt-120 and operate the “off” button to learn that code. The zxt should flash 2 times to let you know it was a success. The next code I had my unit learn was to turn on and put the mini split into heat mode at 22 degrees C. You have to follow the above steps for each code that you want the zxt to learn. Sometimes you may have to repeat the learn procedure a couple of times before it will take. I even had VERA tell me that it failed when learning one of the code, but it still worked. Another very important thing we learned while doing this, was that you must set the remote at the same value that you are trying to teach the zxt. In other words, when we were teaching the zxt to turn on in heat mode at 22 degrees C, we had to first set the remote to that setting. All I can say is good luck to anyone trying to do this, but don’t give up, it should work. It may not do everything that your original remote can do, but it will do some of it. There are still many things that we would like to teach it, but we just haven’t figured out how to do them yet.
ZXT 120 is starting to drive me crazy.
I bought a zxt120 here in Spain, and it had firmware 0.5. I asked for an update, and the company has changed it to version 1.0.
I am not being able to make it learn IR codes: I set value 000 on parameter 27 (2 Byte decimal), and save. Then, i put at parameter 25 (2 byte dec) value 2 to save in that channel. Unit flashes twice, to let me know it is being configured, and then one more flash. I point with my TV remote, and then it just flashes 6 times, and no code is recorded. I never get it to learn any IR code.
Any advice?
hmquien,
Sounds to me like you’re doing everything right. The only things I don’t know about is that I thought the zxt-120 was for A/C units only. Remotec sells another unit for audio/video equipment. You might want to check into that.
Now as for my issue with the zxt-120, it looks like it’s not going to work for my brand of A/C units. I have the Panasonic mini split heat pumps and the only thing I can get the zxt-120 to do, is turn the unit off and tell me the room temperature. I can also get the zxt-120 to put the unit into heat mode, but I can’t get it to turn on the fan at the same time and there is no learnable code for fan mode. If only I could get one of the codes from the built in code library to work, my problems would be solved. Oh well, live and learn. If I ever get this thing working, I will let you know.
With the help of this forum and this thread i have managed to create a device for the ZXT120 in my UI5, and it is pulling in temperature data. I have a Daikin AC which i want to control, basic on/off would be enough for a start. I have managed to load all the Daikin codes, i tried all of them, none of them worked. Then i tried learning the remote commands, and it seemed to learn, i have the 2 blips when i point the remote at the sensor. But when i click on the command, the AC does not react. The led in the sensor flashes so seems to transmit something. Has anybody have similar p[roblems or any advice ?
mikee123,
Your issue sounds very similar to the one I’m having with the Panasonic mini split heat pump. I’m able to monitor temperature and turn the unit off, if it’s already on. I can put the unit into heat mode, but I’m not able to get the fan to run. I’ve tried all the 2 and 3 digit codes that are listed in the code library, but none of them will work.
I would be happy (ish) if i could just turn the unit on or off… even that i cannot get to work
I know what you mean. I can get the unit to turn on, but it doesn’t do much good if the fan doesn’t blow. So I’m pretty much in the same boat as you. I can monitor room temperature and turn the unit off and that’s it. I called Panasonic tech support yesterday, but they were of no help. They do however, claim to have an option that would allow me to turn the units on and off, but that’s it.
Hi
Don’t know what I’m dooing wrong.
Got my zxt-120 today, found the IR code, and heat/cool are working with the temp show in the web gui.
but when starting “auto”, the temp always is “25”, is ther a way to change that ?
/Cokeman
Click Auto first, then change the temp.
hehe that would be nice.
Pressing auto, sets “auto at 25C”, pressing heat -1 or +2, switches to HEAT mode at that temp
and
Pressing auto, sets “auto at 25C”, pressing cool -1 or +2, switches to cool mode at that temp
Which ‘auto’ are you pressing, fan or thermostat?
I normally click the fan auto button, then click the cool temp + or - I desire.
Hi
the one above cool and heat.
Hi,
One Customer is trying to make the ZXT-120 (Z-Wave-to-AC IR Extender) communicate with a Napoleon Air Conditionner … Model : NHPS18 but nothing . I think… Haier is the same brand as Napoleon and if yes the code list is 023 .
This didn’t work either, is there an other code for this unit ?
Please help me resolve this problem!
Thank you !
Still trying to get this to switch my Daikin A/C on or off. Tried all Daikin codes, none of them worked. (There are a few more Daikin modes for the 1.1 version, but i have 1.0, and i cannot get those new codes programed in). I tried laerning the on/off , i only have a power toggle on my remote, the led flashed twice to say it has learned the code, and if i query i think it is 25 or 26 i get value 2 which shows that it has learned the code. It still does not switch the unit on or off.
