Is it reasonably possible to restrict control of a device to only when the request is being made locally to the Vera? I have a water valve that I would like to be able to control, but only when I am physically nearby. The reason is that it seems too easy to accidentally turn on the water remotely which would make quite a mess and be costly. Accidentally turning on a light is no big deal, but water flooding the house is something else entirely. Geofencing might help here, but only if it isn’t too complicated.
Or put an extra password or some sort of lock on the device so a quick finger swipe cannot turn it on?
Or give up and add another independent Vera (or other lower cost controller?) that is not connected to the servers? What’s the minimal setup needed to turn a Z-wave device off and on from a short distance - 15 to 20 feet?
How about using ping sensor to check your phone/pc is on the local metwork and build that into a scene to turn on the water. Then hide the actual device so that you can only control via the scene. If you can’t see the device you can’t accidentally operate it.
If you are running UI7, why not test the house mode and only run the scene when Vera is in mode HOME? You may want to download the HouseModes plugin which makes interfacing with the House mode easy.
How do you ‘hide’ a device so it’s still controllable but not present in the UI? Would love for “Unlock all doors” not to open my garage and “Turn on all lights” not to set off the siren I have on a switch.
Use a real app like Imperihome. You can hide it, add a pop up confirmation window or add a pop up password when you try and change that device.
HomeWave for iOS is also great if you have a crApple device.

[quote=“liam.whiteside, post:2, topic:176276”]In case it helps someone else… I had this same issue where I wanted to hide all the devices used to control Xmas lights after they’d been taken down for the year, without having to set everything up again next year.
I’ve setup a scene called ‘Hide Xmas light control’ with this Luup code (the numbers at the end are the device IDs that you can get by looking in Devices / select a device / advanced in UI7. To make them appear again I just need to replace the 1 with a 0 on each line.
this does not stop it from being operated by ‘unlock all’ or ‘turn off all’ if it would have been operated by them before. all it does is hide the device so you cannot accidentally click on it.
