Remove Old Z-Wave Nodes from Routing on ZWave Controller

Due to issues with Leviton scene controllers, I factory reset and re-included them about 100 times before i got the process down.

However, I’m worried about phantom nodes on my Z-Wave controller slowing down the responsiveness of my 80 node network (I’m in the 2xx for node ID’s due to multiple re-inclusions).

Should I be worried that those previous inclusions could be the cause z-wave delays of 1-2 seconds for motion controlled lights or other sluggishness?

Every time you add a new z-wave device, the node id will increase. It will keep increasing until it hits the maximum number, I believe 232 and then it will start to reuse the old ones not being used. As long as you excluded them properly, you have no reason to worry about phantom devices.

What if I just re-included (or clicked the delete button)…but never excluded before reincluding.

For example, I just used the factory reset on the Leviton scene controllers…not an exclude. This Leviton manual states:

Why didn’t you follow the manual in the first place, instead of citing it now?

When you factory reset and reincluded the switches, did you then have two instances in Vera and then deleted one? If so, you should be fine. If not, you may have issues with phantom devices.

If you’re really worried, factory reset them one last time, but factory reset Vera this time as well. Start from scratch with a clean slate, then you know you’re good.
