I am looking for an option as a back up in case something happens to my vera. Lets say it breaks somehow. Basically all zwave devices would not work until vera got replaced so I would like to have a remote that could send signals directly to devices instead of going through the vera. I have a ACT light switch, forgot model, that in vera i can make it talk directly to devices, up to 5. Is there some sort of remote that can do this as well? Possibly the GE one?
Thanks,
@erenogolf,
If you’re looking to have remote control (on/off, dim/bright) of your switches, dimmers and appliance modules, then any secondary controller should suffice, including the GE. (It gets trickier with scenes; in general, assume they will not work (properly) if Vera is down.)
Having some remotes (i.e. secondary controllers) around is a great way to control devices on a daily basis as well.
Of course there’s only a limited number of buttons on a remote, so you’d have to pick which devices you want to control during an ‘outage’ if you have more devices than you have buttons. Also, you need to make sure to keep your secondary controllers up-to-date with Vera after including new devices, or you wouldn’t be able to control the newly added devices.
Great. Thanks very much. I will get a GE remote and check it out. Mainly concerned with tuning on some lights just in case vera goes down.
That’ll work. My wife’s GE remote that controls the master bedroom lighting is the one I never monkey with and always works regardless of the state I may have Vera in at night… ;D
