Remote connection very slow from out of country

I am traveling in Honduras trying to connect to my VerasII (latest ui) in the US. I can connect to my home unit but not my work unit. Connecting through cp.mios.
It takes a very long time to connect to the home unit (~10 minutes) So far I can’t get the work unit to connect at all.
Connecting through Hotel wireless that is pretty good (video Skype works)
Any thoughts?

Some thoughts:

Modern browser? You haven’t said if you are using the browser supplied by the hotel or a laptop/phone you’re taking with you. The Vera web interface is very heavy on Javascript; it probably runs like a dog on old browsers like IE6 and Firefox 3.0.

It could be network latency. The Vera UI has a lot of back/forth connections all with little bits of data. If you have decent throughput but bad latency then it might take ages for the UI to become responsive. Skype may not be a good indicator because it depends on streaming throughput, not latency. Maybe try an AJAX-heavy site like, I dunno, GMail?

Follow up: After trying many things and then letting it try to load for a few hours I closed the browser and tried it the next day. Worked fine after that. Cookies/History maybe…
