remote access vera 2 without use of cp.mios.com

Hi,

Is it possible to remote access the Vera 2 GUI directly (with opening ports on the router) to access the mios vera 2 gui?

From the internal lan the GUI is not password protected, is there no proper option for remote management (direcly) without the use of the mios website?

Regards,

Maikel

You have to assign an static IP address to your Vera in your router and then create a NAT rule to forward the traffic to your Vera’s IP. Finally, you have to configure http://www.dyndns.com/ service in your router (most of them could) to be able to contact your router’s public address.

A final note. This is not “secure” at all. Anybody that can find your public address or dyndns could enter your vera and control and/or see your cams. I really would prefer to enter my username and password in mios

If you have a router that can support VPN, your best bet is DYNDNS and a vpn endpointing at your router to establish a virtual private network for local Vera access.

Alternatively, if you have a pc you leave always on, you can go with any number of client/server based VPN solutions and tunnel through your router to your network and access Vera locally that way. Make sure your router will allow “VPN Passthrough” traffic, or an equivalent setting, before embarking down this path.

Whatever you do, don’t open a port on your edge router to forward traffic to your Vera. That would be the biggest mistake you ever make on your home network. You are likely being hit 20-30 times a day with automated port scans looking for just such an opening in a router. FYI: just the VPN MCV establishes with the Vera unit behind your router firewall attracts more attention than you really want… Remember, all local traffic to the Vera including user name and pw are non-https and therefore in the clear. . .I really REALLY wish we could have local access to the V1 or V2 with https. . .
