How does Vera do with power outages, or for that matter z-wave components in general? I’m planning on using Vera up in Tahoe and we have frequent outages. Does it recover and manage normally post outage?
I’ve had bad luck with x-10 switches going bad with power fluctuations as well - not in Tahoe as this will be a new adventure - but in the bay area at the primary residence. Thanks.
well the vera you can put on a ups to at least minimize the frequency and at least give some surge protection.
I have had an ACT switch and an ACT wall wort go bad after several years (have ~20 devices for 3+ years to get an idea). The ACT switches are the lower end of the spectrum with one of the crappier warranties- so part of that is you get what you pay for. But they didn’t die from a particualr power outage or anything that I can recall.
As far as how does the vera work when there’s a power outage- she picks up pretty much right were she left off. Generally If light X was on when the power died then Vera will put light X back on when the power comes back up. I forget what happens if you have a scene that triggers at a certain time but vera is down then- i think it might skip it but that would be about the worst issue that could happen off the top of my head. (so if you have a scene to turn a lamp on at 7pm and off at midnight each night. If power goes off at 6pm and comes on at 8pm the lamp probably wont turn on that evening but would pick back up the next night. If you had critical things you could just set multiple times - if you really really night that light to come on each night then you just set it to go on at 7,8,9,10,11 as an example.
There’s also an APC plugin in the works that would notify you when the power is out and you vera is running on the APC UPS if you wanted to know that.
For the Versa - I have that, my routers and IP cameras all on UPS - so I have not had any issues with “forgetting” (UPS monitor log shows lots of brief power interruptions.
We had one big outage - but the Z wave lamp modules, switched ect were fine when they came back up (as were the Insteon going via PLM into the MCV)
Very old thread. Anyone know if the power outage plugin exists. I need just that and my Vera is on a battery backup. Need to know if other elements have experienced a power outage as it seems a few modules need power to be cycled to get back to working properly.
New post against old thread: I am using a VeraPlus WiFi into Linksys 24388 router. All was good until we had a power failure. Cannot get VeraPlus back on network using WiFi or ethernet connection.

If Vera was connected over WiFi, it has issues with such connection sometimes due to change of the WiFi channel.
For some reason Plus doesn’t handle it well (Edge doesn’t have such problem) and it might be that your router changed its WiFi channel after reboot. The only solution for now it is to set channel as fixed in router settings.
But I think it should work if connected via LAN. You may try to reset network settings (press reset switch 3 times in a row).
Did you have WiFi broadcasting enabled in Vera? If yes, can you access it that way?
OK, but can you access the unit locally?
If yes, you may do a factory reset then restore from backup (first of course create such backup and don’t forget to backup z-wave network as well).
If no, then contact customer care.
