Recommended budget outdoor dome camera ?

Hello

I am looking for an outdoor dome IP camera that won’t break the bank and might work with Vera ?

Plan to install the camera under a porch over hang so would not be in direct weather.

I saw this outdoor camera on ebay which looks OK. I am not sure who the manufacturer is? but its Onvif compliant.

“IP camera is one cost effective 2.0 Mega Pixel IP IR Fix Dome, which build-in the latest HISILICON Hi 3507 chipset”

I was also toying with the idea of just using a cheaper indoor dome camera like this one here and maybe weather proofing more with silicon sealant etc. Not sure how long it might last outside though.

I am assuming these types of cams might work with the Vera generic IP camera add-in?

Foscam don’t seem to make any budget dome cameras like these, although I did see this one FI8607 seems to be only available in Vietnam.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I’ve just ordered this one:

I have been using Foscam FI8904W outdoors for over a year with no problem (6 of them). They also have a dome one but it is pricey.

Yes I did also see this one on ebay. Not sure if its indoor or outdoor? It does say Waterproof. Do you plan to use it outside? Please let us know how you get on with this camera and Vera etc.

Thanks

Yes I already have one Foscam FI8905W, but I need something smaller for the front porch. My Foscam has been OK although just lately I have found the camera is not visible and I have had to pull the power twice now to reboot it to get it back online. I have had mine for maybe 9 months.

Planning to use it outdoors under the eaves. I’ll keep you posted.

There is a camera here on AliExpress which has the same housing as the one you picked on Ebay (Blue band). One difference I can see is it has H.264 compression rather than mpeg compression. Both are VGA (640x480).

Here is the one with the red band on the housing.

Damm think my Foscam FI8905W just died. Its been playing up just recently kept disappearing off the LAN, I would recycle power to get it back. However today its not coming back can’t ping it and the IP Camera Tool software is not finding it either. ::slight_smile:

I got my eBay cam today - it works fine with Vera

Sounds good! What are your overall impressions of that dome camera ? I might order one as well then.

Cheers

I’ve had one of these IP Camera’s for nearly 6 months now, and yes I can confirm that it works fine with Vera3, even motion detection works fine.

I wouldn’t really say that it’s an outdoor camera, more for indoors. But again if well hidden under eaves then might be OK. I’m using mine for my alfresco area, which is outdoor but well covered.

I wish they made them much smaller as a mini dome camera. I’ve also purchased this one but having troubles getting it to work with Vera. It’s a top quality camera image & very slick looking. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=QC8624&form=CAT2&SUBCATID=1035#5

For the price I think it’s pretty good.

I bought the same dome camera off ebay, its not arrived yet though.

However here are two related links:

Manufacturer: Eye Sight
Model: ES-IP611W
Product Page here, there is a .rar file you can download, which contains IPCamTool - SuperIPCam (Some multi cam software) Mobile phone .jar file and user manuals etc.

Eye Sight iOS app here

Thanks for the links.

The camera comes with a CD containing everything on the product page I think, but the iOS app is interesting. I use an app called CamViewer on iPad and iPhone which seems to work well with most makes and models of IP camera - via LAN and WAN.

My camera arrived today!

Only problem I found with the setup is that it does not like the # char in the WIFI password key.

Trying to add it to Vera now, what URL did you use ?

“Or, if your camera is not on the list, paste the URL which returns a JPG file in the box below”

Thanks

If I use a URL like this it works during the adding the camera process in VeraLite

http://192.168.1.11:88/snapshot.cgi?

However when I go in to devices tab, the new device for the camera just says undefined. I can not see the camera image and the new device its added is not like a normal camera device i.e. like my other foscam.

Great I can’t delete this undefined device now, it said invalid plugin. I checked a box about preventing additional dialogues or something and now when I press the delete button on this new device nothing happens.

Refreshing the page brought the dialogues back, this is what it says when I try to delete the undefined device:

Remove this plugin and any devices this plugin created?

Command Failed: Invalid plugin.

Some good news the camera is working in mControl and in Windows Media Center on the TV! Dead easy to add, I just used the existing Foscam profile.

Which makes me wonder could I use the VeraLite Foscam plugin to add this dome camera to Vera ? Rather than adding a generic camera which resulted in this undefined device for me.

OK I found this thread here which gives you a command to run to remove a device, this has worked and the dodgy undefined device has now been removed.

So I just need to know the correct way to add this camera ?

Many thanks

EDIT: Just went to the Foscam APP and selected Create Another but nothing has been added?
