real time power readings

Looks like Google is partnering with this company to provide real time power usage. The installation looks really simple as well. Once my Vera stops freezing weekly, this would be a great Luup add-on!

All kidding aside, my Vera froze again last night. Simple reboot did not work, nor did a reboot and dongle reseat. I had to unplug the Vera and reseat the dongle, poll all devices and presto everything will work again for 5-7 days.

I’ve thought about putting it on a separate timer to power cycle the Vera like others have, but I’m using it as a primary router and it doesn’t always get a DHCP address from my ISP and a network restart or any kind of restart will not make Vera go out and get one. It appears from the wiki is that the only way to get an address is to unplug the WAN port and or cable modem and wait a seeming random time and plug it back in and hope it pulls an address from the ISP. I had to do this ~6 times yesterday over 25 minutes before Vera would grab an IP address

ok, enough ranting, I hope real Time Power Monitoring and appliance shutoff can be in Vera’s future.

You should not have to power cycle a device like Vera. I runs on linux and should be stable and run a very very long time. It should be able tobe placed on a UPS and for get about it.
This is getting to be very dissapointing.
MCV When will this be fixed?

You’re right, I should not have to power cycle it. But it seems that’s the only way to make it work again. Sometimes a reboot from the command line will work, sometimes a reboot from the Vera interface will work, sometime neither. But nothing as consistent as a hard power cycle, at least for this fw version. Maybe they tweaked this version of wrt or there is still another memory leak somewhere.

Power source should not be a problem for me as all critical stuff (Vera, Switch, Cable Modem, NAS) are on a SMART-UPS with pure sine-wave power conditioning.
