Range smart thermometer

Supermechanical, the ones who brought you the Twine, have just released a new Kickstarter project for a device called Range.

Looks interesting. Here’s what the first few paragraphs from the Kickstarter site says about it;

Modernize your kitchen craft with precise temperature readings, alerts to phones anywhere, & recipe graphs for repeatable tastiness.

Everyone loves an artisan who can make a fabulous beer, smoke the perfect side of ribs, or make some amazing chocolate truffles. These culinary masters are what makes local restaurants great. But who has the time to grow a beard, get a ton of tattoos, and devote their life to perfecting their abilities to cook only one type of food? With Range, you can take the guesswork out of cooking and perfect your kitchen craft.

Clip it on or stick it in and set an alert for the desired temperature with the Range app for iOS (we include presets for common uses). While you do the dishes or sip a well-deserved glass of wine, Range graphs the temperature over time so you can learn and improve from each experiment. Once the roast has reached temperature and achieved perfection, Range tells you.

Looks like they will even let people have API access, for a price.

In case someone wants to have a new project to integrate with their Vera. :slight_smile:

An iPhone/iPad based cooking thermometer? That’s a $300+ thermometer! For kitchen use? Are they cooking Meth?

I’m amazed at the amount of money being thrown around on these Kickstarter projects. It seems pretty ludicrous to me and I’m willing to pay $70 for a light switch!

Not Meth, it is just an extension of the I-craze that you see.

I’d be worried about what the are using in the electronic components melting and becoming secret ingredients in my cooking.

Probably not a taste or side effect many would want to experience.
