question on TZ66-D

Hi,

I am a new joiner to the z-wave world, and just had my vera lite installed and successful work with all my z-wave devices.

I want to be able to turn off all lights with one click when going to bed in my master bed room, and hence nominated TKB TZ66-D to do the hard work.

now my problem is, I have assigned 5 lighting devices into the association group 2.
but everytime when I press it, it only able to turn on/off of the nearest 2 devices.

I believe this is due to the signal range problem as i have done several test. I am staying in condo which is not very big. And TZ66 able to turn on one of the device but not another which is locate around 3 meters further only. :frowning:

Does anyone have idea? either boost the signal, or able to setup the routing?

another question is what does the Auxiliary Switch Signal Input does?

thanks all for the help

Well, the first thing I’d ask is this…

What kind of construction are we dealing with? Standard 2x4 wood studs with ordinary sheetrock, rebar reinforced cement walls, stone block walls, metal studs? It certainly sounds like you’re dealing with a radio unfriendly environment.

If the TZ66 wasn’t the last device you included, you could try to re-include it and see if it makes a difference.

I am staying in a high rise condominium with concrete wall.

to add on, the device that not able to turn on is in the open area together with the device that able to turn on.

it is the last device included. and i have tried to re-include with no luck.

wonder are there any special setting that allow the device to able to have routing?

also any one know what the Auxiliary Switch Signal Input does? wonder if this has anything to do with improving the signal???

The Auxiliary Switch input is used to connect a TZ66A auxiliary switch only. This switch allows wired 3-way operation of a TZ66S/D. It is not a z-wave device.

Test the device in another location to verify that it is not faulty.
If the device is OK, you might have interference/range problems. You can try adding another unit (such as a TZ68G) to act as a repeater.

The TZ66 is the last device included?

Is it is possible to try to bring the two devices close together, temporarily, just to see if that works?

tested by moving all the devices closer, and it works fine.

confirmed was the ranged problem.

my question is:

  • i have several z-wave devices between the range, how am i going to set those devices in between to use as a repeater for my TZ66D? they are not TKB products. how can i configure in vera?

i dont see why a 3 way operation is needed since it was z-waved, it can simply on/off by using another z-waved remote.

Vera / Z-Wave should figure that out automatically. Which Z-Wave version are you using (3.20 or 2.78) and are you using MiOS routing?

The matching remotes to make a 3-way (or more) have no Z-Wave chip / fewer electronics in them, typically resulting in quite a price difference between a 'dumb'/wired remote and a Z-Wave remote switch. So if you have existing 3-way wiring, it's cost effective to go with the wired remotes.

i am using z-wave version 3.20, and VERA Lite with latest updated MiOS.
how to setup the MiOS routing?

all my devices are working fine, with no signal issue together with the Vera. however the TZ66D is the only one that having signal problem when as remote to control other devices.

thanks
