I’ve just ordered my Vera2 and it’s in the mail ! I’ve got a current series 1 crestron processor that I’ll be replacing with Vera, and I was wondering if there’s a way to use the Crestron IR probes with Vera. There’s nothing special about them really, but I was wondering what I’d plug them in to ? The Crestron processor had the hooks for it so that was simple, but would like to reuse them )since they’re already all wired up) with Vera.
There is nothing on Vera to plug the IR devices into, you could possibly replace the ends with 3.5mm plugs and use a GC-100 or iTach?
Personally, I would start by leaving the Crestron in place (unless you want to/have to remove it) and interface it to Vera.
This came up in an initial search, http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php?topic=2765.msg11012#msg11012
The problem is that because this is a series 1 crestron, programming for it is a real PITA for my own personal home automation, and because the only real way I have to talk with it is through RS/232 (nothing wrong with RS/232 :P), it does start to limit things. In the end, I’ve developped my own automation software that runs on a server, and the only thing I’m sending to the crestron are RS/232 commands to tell it to send IR codes lol … A bit overkill.
Thanks for the tips, I will look in to those two. That’s exactly the type of plug these things are compatible with. Is there good integration between these two and Vera ?
Thanks,
Eric.
