Proximity sensing

I am between getting a Vera and Iris system. One thing I haven’t seen for Vera which Iris has is key fob that can sense when you (or anyone with a fob) is in the house and when everyone has left. Iris will automatically turn on the alarm system when everyone has left the house and turn it off when it sense the first key fob return.

Is there anyway to do something like this with Vera?

In general, even if I have to press a button on a key fob, I’ve only seen one thing called a fob with 4 buttons and it didn’t really look like a key fob (more like a little remote). I just don’t think I want to rely on my smartphone for turning on/off the security portion of the system.

I’ll add that the security to register/post to these forums seems a bit much and is a nuisance.

Vera is not an Alarm System. You can couple one … such as DCS … that has the features you are looking for.

There is a big difference between the two systems.

As you post more … the security features will disappear … this is to keep spammers away.

I understand that mcv is not a security system. I haven’t really heard why it can’t be used as one though. I know it is not going to send the police, but all I am looking for is a siren(s) if someone breaks in. I’m not protecting Fort Knox here. Just trying to scare off intruders (I live in a very urban area) and everyone will hear the siren.

I understand security to fight spam, but 3 to post a msg? Never seen more than 1 and usually that is just to register! It is a poor implementation. They could just limit the number of posts per hour/day or whatever.

The current implementation has worked very well for the last few years. I’d rather see new users having to suffer just a little than to clean up the spam every day.

Back to my original question, it seems like Vera has more flexibility overall than Iris, but can’t support the proximity sensing of a keyfob.
