Proximity / Fob

Hi,

I have a vera alarm system / automation in place.

I have a scene for arming / disarming / trigger etc.

I was wondering if there is a way to arm / disarm the alarm with keyfobs ? e.g something detects the keyfob and disarms the system. When everyone leaves the system is armed after 60 seconds…

Cheers

Have you checked out the RFID plugin?

Ok that looks like the sort of thing i need. Any idea what device i need ? I’m in the UK.

Maplin job ?

Something like this ?

Be careful with disarming your entire system using one of these proximity systems. If your keyring/wallet/purse gets stolen or lost , it gives the thief instant access to your home. To me the ease of use does not outweigh my need for security.

Unfortunately with RfID tags it’s quite easy to read them with a device by just walking past you, getting all data and creation a clone and again, full access as the encryption used is not that strong.

If you insist on a proximity system, no need to buy Rf tags if all that need access have a smart phone with WiFi.
Phone connects to WiFi triggers a signal to disarm. Phone disconnects from WiFi triggers a arm signal. Or if no more of a list of given smart phones is connected then arm. Easy enough to script using the MAC addresses of the phones on both windows or Unxes especially when assigning a static IP based on said MAC address. Just ping IP, if response, connected. If no response, not connected. Again, losing the phone or someone aware of the system and spoofing the MAC provides easy access.

Right well on that note. How about an alarm panel I can put on the wall ?

e.g Go to numbered panel on the wall.
Put the pin in and then arm

Is that possible ?

Yes with extra hardware, and if you currently have a “roll your own” Vera type solution with Zwave sirens and Zwave sensors etc, then you should think about a full alarm system and keypad that you can interface with Vera.

There are many choices to do this if you check out the alarm section in http://code.mios.com/
