presetup advice

Hey,
I am in the process of building a house and I am looking into home automation. I have been frequently searching these forums and have decided to go with Vera.
My projected initial setup:
2 door locks (kwikset)
5 GE light switches (from lowes)
Russound CA66 with 2 apple express as sources
3 nexus 7 tablets wall mounted to interface with vera and apple express
-custom ROM with tap to wake and swipe to sleep
-AirStream to get android to play nice with airplay
Thinks I’m thinking of doing:
Adding a couple aeon sensors for temperature monitoring/motion
DSC Security system (following a setup from a thread on here)
Weather station (trouble with this one prob use weather plug in instead)
Control TV/AV (all components will be in the basement) need advice with high WAF (she likes standard remotes)
Garage door (remote mod)
Anything else you would highly recommend

You need to add a zwave or wifi thermostat!

Nest… Cause it works great and looks even better

Which Rom is this? Already Kitkat?

Thank you

If you have a nexus 7 (2013) and your rooted**
I am using nightmare ROM with a dif kernel to enable double tap to turn screen on and swipe to turn display off. If you need help or info on this I can give you more info.

Also, make sure that the repeating devices are getting you to the non-repeating devices (e.g. door sensors) with a good signal. Depending on your type of construction, you may want to our a few z wave repeaters or repeating outlet switches in.

Consider:
Irrigation controller
If you are using a tank style water heater, add a CA3750 to switch that off remotely (vacations) or the ELK

Will the GE wall switches repeat? My water heater is a tank but propane so idk if that’s a problem or not. Irrigation control I was looking at a thread on here (might be future project)
Thank you for your input! Keep it coming
Also although I don’t have a unit yet I want to thank everyone who put together the plugins

yeah, the wall switches repeat.

Go Tankless on the water heater if not too late!!!

I have a propane tankless, works terrific.

Using the Nexus 2012 version  (rooted)
What I did until now is check the box “don’t turn screen off” in the Dev options so that I only darkens the screen and never go off. But it means that I can’t put of these in bedrooms or not have them constantly connected to the wall plug.

What HA app are you going to run on your Tablet ?

I downloaded em all and will test each one til I find one I like. Pre setup I like imperihome for the dashboard setup.
Ok you need to install a new kernel that allows for 2tap turn green on and swipe to turn screen off. I don’t know if I can post links in here but elementalx-n7-2.6 is the kernel I am using its found on xda nexus 2013 forum I will look into the 2012 version do not install the 2013 version on your 2012 it will brick it.

I like imperihome also. I didn’t do anything to my A500 and all I do is tap to display imperihome.

It also can use the front facing camera to wake up when you walk up to it.

Would love to see what solution anyone comes up with for tablet mounting and power. Other than tape and velcro :stuck_out_tongue:

I just bought a desk dock for the A500 that I’m going to try to make a wall mount into a double gang box. We’ll see how it comes out… Pics to follow if it goes well

I got a couple ideas and if it pans out well I will post photos. I had extra electrical outlets placed at eye level in the spots I am putting the tablets.
Thank you for the links some great ideas in there!

Thanks Z-waver. Yeah I’ve seen that last one before using the HP and the touch charger. That’s a lot of work.

Not saying I wouldn’t do something similar…

I ran the idea of the wall mounted tablets by the wife earlier… she just glared at me. Yeah, getting the house done and livable first is the main priority .

I am looking at the ecobee thermostat now. It looks really nice with the functionality. If anyone has one can they tell me about what the very can do with it? Can I use temp sensors from a 3in1 sensor to average the temp for the thermostat? I know it has slots for additional wired Senors.
