I’ve been noticing very poor battery life on my Schlage locks. Down to 25% in 4 - 5 months.
I see that Vera polls the lock every few min.
I see that the lock responds because the pen / paper icon goes blue then green. Come to think of it, this is the only device that goes blue then green, all others go green then red or green only.
Other battery operated devices will show green then red during polling, I take it they are sleeping until their wake up interval.
I try setting different values for Poll this node at most once every, but nothing seems to do anything. I even tried 0, which says never, and it still polls the lock every few min. I do select save after each change.
I have 3 deadbolts and they last about 5 months before they are down to 50% which is where I change them out. I’m running 1.0.979 UI2. If your are running 1.0.996 that is still UI2 not UI3. I use both Duracells and Kirkland(Costco) alkaline’s and they both last the same.
Guess it could be UI2, would have thought a new vera 2 from this year would have been UI3. Kind of hard to tell, can’t find anywhere that shows what each UI looks like.
Problem still remains as to how to adjust polling time. I would have to think that this constant polling is what is killing the batteries. Other battery devices go to sleep and ignore the polling. The Schlage lock does not. There is an option to adjust the polling time, but it just doesn’t seem to do anything. Currently it is set at poll at most once every 0 seconds, 0 seconds = never poll. Still polls every few min.
I just received a couple Vera 2’s and they had UI2 1.0.996 on them but I already upgraded them to UI4. I wonder if it has something to do with the version of firmware you are using because I watched my UI2 Vera’s and after 5 minutes the locks never polled but the thermostat did every minute. Both boxes are blank in the “poll this node at most every” My thermostats turn blue with a rotating pencil until it stops and goes green and when I hit poll this node on the lock it does the same.
I am coming up on a year with the original batteries in my Schlage deadbolt. I have used various versions of UI2, UI3 and now UI4 in that time. Right now they read 56%.
Do you think you use the lock more than average? Do you have a lot of people coming and going each day?
Kind of curious though if anyone else has tried changing this option to see if it effects the polling time. I’ve tried 0 ( never poll ) and various other times, nothing stops it from getting polled in sequence. It’s just that the Schlage lock doesn’t seem to go to sleep like other battery devices so it responds to each request.
