Plugins

I have a Insteon powerlinc and some Appliancelincs and was wondering if I got a Vera could I control them with Insteon Plugins? Are Plugins available to everyone? Do I need to know code to use them?

Good news! The latest firmware revisions for Vera do include interoperability with Insteon (and X10), so you’re good to go “right out of the box.” Just activate “Insteon” under DEVICES, and get going.

The only “catch” is you will need to connect Vera to your powerline by using a PLM (PowerLinc modem), such as model 2412U or 2412S with a USB-to-serial (RS232). Not cheap, but worth it in my opinion (I’m in the market for one as we speak!).

Are all Insteon devices supported? If I were to get a Triggerlinc (Door/Window Sensor) from Smarthome would I have to write a plugin? I have no idea how to write code.

I have been reading the forums for several weeks, and I must say you are always there to give plain advice for us who just want to control devices with going into the programming side. Thanks for the quick help!

Only because I haven’t yet acquired my 2412U or 2412S, I’m reluctant to even guess. But Micasaverde (user who’s also the Vera programmer/developer) will be able to tell you more.

Meanwhile, here’s all the “Insteon” related pages over on the Wiki:

Instead of the TiggerLinc here is a door and window sensor that I am using it’s small and I thinks woks very well I am using 3 currently 1 on the frontdoor, 1 on 1 of the Sliders in the back of the house and 1 on a closet door have been working great for over 4 months - comes in both US (908) and EU(868) Z-Wave:
