Plugins ... free?

I’ve a look to getvera plugins page and… I see that last plugins have a note “License Fee may be needed…” Interesting… UI6 and UI7 doesn’t support UI5 plugin’s (or a least there is no guarantee)… Perhaps the new way of MiCasaVerde (Vera) is a not free service… That would be an explanation to the absurd update from UI5 to UI6… almost every user who updated fron UI5 is looking for a way to downgrade!!! Nobody recomends update… I was thinking about buy Vera 3 but I don’t comprehend tha actual state of Vera and its future…
Any other explanation?

Some plugin authors charge a fee. The core OS UI5, UI6, UI7 is free from Vera. Plugins are not written by Vera, but by independent authors.

If you want a plugin that works on UI5…to work on UI6/7…it will require the original plugin author to update their code. This costs them time, frustration, and money. Some will continue to be free, some may switch to a paid model.

Please don’t complain when your particular plugin isn’t upgraded if your not willing to pony up a few bucks (typically under $10) per plugin. Even at $10, that is a gift of functionality for what it brings. The saying goes, you don’t kick a plugin horse in the mouth.

Yes as explained the ones that have a fee are not made, written, or created by MiCasaVerde. They are made buy independent users like you and me that wanted something that didn’t exist and they made it up from scratch on their own time experimenting with their own Vera or spare Vera they had to buy. Some users off free some don’t. I would say really depends on the complexity of it and if they have maintain it. Some create it share it for free and split, some users have a full days job of updating, answering questions and fixing bugs and there fore charge a 1 time fee for their time.

If and when VERA and its software gets updated their plugin no longer works and they now have to make it all work on the new system its possible to tell you new version requires payment.

Same goes for the apps your using on your andriod or IOS. The app stores are run buy anyone from Joe next door to a large company. Some are free some are not.

Yes, I know and I comprehend that if somebody make a work he can ask money for it. I respect him. But Vera doesn’t, every update should keep compatibility with the work of many guys, Vera controller is good and popular, in a great part, because of these plugins. That’s the origin of my complaints. If Vera brokes this rule (backward compatibility) who is going to make a plugin?, who is going to pay if after a Vera update the plugin could became obsolete? … Think about the very evident answer…

While it should be, in the technology industry, it generally is not. Work must go in to each legacy system to make sure it’s behaving.

Else, you have bloated and inefficient systems.
