The following is on my house system running UI5 (Vera 3)
I woke up today to find my Lighting PLEG giving me all kinds of errors … Arithmetic with nil values …
So I though I would do a status report … well then I started to get a bunch of popup dialog boxes about removing deleted triggers.
After about 10 I realized that I had serious problems.
Thinking that things have been corrupted I did a Restore from two nights earlier … Same problem.
A little more detailed look and I found a bunch of my Z-Wave devices were gone.
So I did another restore … this time indicating to restore the Z-Wave network … But I used last nights backup.
All of my devices were back … but as generic devices.
One more backup … this time without restoring the Z-Wave network, since it looked like all my z-wave devices were accounted for, … from two nights ago … and I am back running again.
I guess something zapped my Z-Wave network last night before the backup. Never had that problem before.
The moral of the story …
- Just because there’s a PLEG error … does not mean it’s a PLEG problem.
- Generate a Z-Wave backup after you add or remove any Z-Wave device from your network. I am pretty religious about that.
- Keep track of how many devices you have … in case one or two disappear.
For me it was a handful out of > 100.
It was not immediately obvious that they were missing.
Especially since my home is automated and I hardly every touch the devices or look at them in the Dashboard or any other APP. - Remember … if you have missing Z-Wave devices … you need to restore them before the Vera Backup will work properly.
(The latter sets room, name, Vera Device ID, … to the Z-Wave devices).
All is good again … but my Vera 3 has also been rebooting a little more often than usual. Maybe it’s getting old …
I have a Vera Edge that I use for testing … I still do not consider UI7 acceptable to run my house …
If my Vera 3 dies before UI7 becomes reliable … touch choices ahead! And Vera Edge(UI7) is not the leading candidate.
