Planning for Alarm install - hybrid wired and wireless sensors?

Hi All-

We are getting ready to move into a new house and I want to put in a DSC system to integrate with our Vera3. I’ve gone through the big DSC thread [url=http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,13773.0.html]http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,13773.0.html[/url] and had planned to do an 1864 panel with a bunch of wireless sensors. While doing a walkthrough of the house yesterday I found that there are a bunch of prewires in place. Most doors and windows have sensors which are wired to a big bundle hanging free int he garage. It seems like it makes sense that I’d use those rather than do wireless ones. There are a couple of doors in an added on part of the house that have no sensors so I would need to do wireless sensors there.

Here are my questions:

  • Is it correct to assume that the 1864 panel will support both kinds of sensors at the same time?

  • How hard is it to do the install with the wired sensors? I heard from someone that I’ll need to get resistors? Does anyone have experience with a self install like this? Is there a guide or reference somewhere?

Yes, you can have a hybrid system. You have two options to do this and they are either a keypad that has this embedded or a self contained module.

End of line (EOL) resistors are very easy. Hard wiring is very simple too. For a view of the basic concept see below link.

Other than to save $17, is there any reason to ever buy the 1832 instead of the 1864.

No, they are the same other than the zones.
