I have one Schlage BE365 door lock that is too far away from vera to work reliably. I installed a Jasco dimmer 45606 about 10 feet away and did a heal of the network; I confirmed the autoroute now goes through the dimmer. The dimmer has 5 star health and the lock now has 3 star health.
I am still having issues receiving reliable polling, especially if actions are in quick succession like enter a code and unlock door (it will never report the door as unlocked). A stress test show 10 of 10 direct pings ok at 1300, 10 of 10 pings ok at 1800, 2 of 10 polls ok. This is reproducible if I repeat the stress test.
Am I missing something? Why would pings always work but polls have issues? Shouldn’t 10 feet through 1 glass door be close enough? Any help would be appreciated.
I have Yale locks and not Schlage, but generally all my locks can’t do things very fast. The first thing happens almost immediately, but after that things get delayed. The final result doesn’t show up until the unit is polled later. I guess its the same for light switches if things are done too fast, or too many things at once. I think the encryption signal just takes longer than a regular signal. Just a guess. But what you’re experiencing in terms of delay for multiple events is fairly normal. Z-wave isn’t exactly “fast”.
Thanks Katmai, I am going to try putting a z wave switch within 1 foot and see if that helps any. From searching the forums I know door lock range is notoriously poor, but it seems a 10 ft nearly unobstructed shot to a node capable of beaming would be sufficient. I will report back once I get the switch installed.
So I added another GE 45609 version 3.0d switch (node 14) right next to the door lock. I performed a whole system heal and retested. The switch right by the door lock has perfect health, responds about as well as one could hope on a stress test, but the door lock right next to it still struggles. So I temporarily added a plug in module between the switch the dimmer (node 12) and the door lock in question (node 16). This is the autoroute field from the door lock:
12.16-107x,12.14.16-124x,12-124x,12.14-128
I don’t get it. These nodes are like 7 feet apart, surely this can’t be too far. I have no other 900 MHz devices in the house and all the wired nodes in these routes respond like a champ. If I move the door lock right next to vera it works fine. What am I doing wrong?
Update in case anyone runs into this. I excluded and reincluded the lock in question, performed about 5 heals, and suddenly the lock is performing much better. The current auto route is:
12-81,12.14-158,0-160,14-191
I guess the lesson is that doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results doesn’t mean you are crazy, it means you own a vera. As a side note I am planning to add an external antenna to my veralite. I hope this will further improve connection issues.
