I have a VeraLite and a Yale YRD220-ZW-619 touchscreen deadbolt, and the setup has been wonderful. However, this morning when I got to work, my PIN code didn’t work. I had to run home & grab the keys to get in. Once I was in, I logged into the dashboard for the VeraLite, and found that all my PIN codes were missing.
I know I had an email about some network upgrades last night - would that have wiped out my PINs? If not, what would’ve, and what can I do to make sure this doesn’t happen again? I plan to keep a key on me in the future just in case, but often it is one of my employees that opens, and the whole reason I bought the lock is to not give out keys.
No one has any input on why this could’ve happened? The lock maintained connection with the VeraLite, but all the custom settings (pin codes, notifications) were lost. I’d like to not have this happen again, in case it happened sometime when I was out of town and an employee needed in the building.
I own a Schlage, but 100% positive that almost all z-wave locks work the same, meaning the codes are stored on the lock, so even if the controller was down, wiped out, etc, you still should be able to open the lock from the keypad.

Am I misunderstanding your issue?

I just did a test - unplugged the VeraLite, and used the lock, and it did work. Between what you said and my little test, it makes me think the PINs are stored on the lock, or at least cached there somehow, so that the lock functions if the VeraLite isn’t reachable due to power outage, etc.
All my PINs were entered through the web interface, as I recall reading somewhere that entering them through the lock touchscreen would have them stored on the lock, but not in the VeraLite, and thus would have reduced functionality.
All I know is that one morning I came to work, and couldn’t get in. After getting in with a key, I logged into the web interface, and the VeraLite was still connected to the lock, but all PIN codes (there were 4) were gone, as well as notification settings. So it’s not like the VeraLite forgot the lock, but all settings aside from the connection were seemingly lost.
Just so you know, I’ve had that happen once myself. The Vera support for Z-wave locks leaves a lot to be desired.
But not worry, the bottom line is that the lock stores any codes, whether programmed through the keypad or through Vera, in it’s own non-volatile memory. So as long as the batteries are good in the lock, you can get in and out through the keypad.

Hope this helps,

Except that I couldn’t… all PIN codes were gone, and I had to go back home and get the key. Had I been out of town and it happened when an employee was opening the shop, they would have had no way to get in unless they could reach me and have me unlock via the app.
I would suggest that you carry in your wallet the 6 digit security/programming code for your lock(s). Should Vera be mean and erase all of your PINs again, your would be able to stand there at the lock and reprogram a new pin immediately through the keypad. Make sure you write down the PIN programming sequence for your specific lock too.
(Of course this applies to Schlage locks. I do not know if other brands program PINs the same way.)
(I changed my 6 digit security/programming code to something I can remember, so I do not have to write it down.)
I think the only reason for the override key is if the battery (or keypad hardware) dies.
I just received my new YRD220, but have not installed or paired it yet.
Does the new lock come with a “factory number”? Where is this information located? With the instructions/documentation included with the lock? Stored within the lock itself? I can find no master/factory pin number within the documentation on my new lock.
When changing batteries, the lock loses all pin codes stored within the lock?

You probably have your Vera password on the bottom of the unit, oh yeh, that’s how the Vera’s used to come![/quote]
Yes please considering a lot of smart phone apps require access to the contact list and I would not be surprised if at least some off them tattle back home.
I prefer a piece of paper hidden in a wallet as it is far safer.
I thought that if you changed the length of the PIN (from the 4 to say, 5 or 6), that the factory code no longer is valid… Pretty sure I tested this out at some point, but maybe I will verify it…
