I’ll start with the good: Got an L-Prize bulb the other day - won it from Philips via a contest they ran on twitter. Bulb looks nice (better than the old Philips LED bulbs) due to removing all the ugly gray and replacing the orange parts with yellow.
Problem: When you dim them down to 0 slowly (GE Dimmer that plays nice with the old style philips bulbs), they turn blue for the last step, and then have a bright blue flash right before off.
I’ll obviously be calling them to see if this one’s just broken or what, but until it’s confirmed - don’t buy any from anywhere you can’t easily return them.
I would really be interested to learn what you find out. I’m currently using many of the Phillips 60 watt equivalent LED bulbs (the ugly orange types) and would be interested to see how the next generation of Phillips bulbs works.
I have had no problem dimming the Phillips bulbs and they do not generate problems that you cite.

I am still waiting to see the 100W equivalent that was supposed to come out in January…have both the 60W-eq and the 75W-eq, and am happy with both, but Linda wants as much light as she can get for her sink in the MBR, so I’ve been holding out for 100W-eq (and cringe every time we turn that light on–4x100W).
Just think about the cost of the old 100W bulb versus the led version. Just think about what you’re saving? 25W versus 100W?

Yep. I just checked Amazon to see how much these things cost. it would cost me something crazy like $800 to replace the bulbs in my house. That’s more than I spend on electricity in a year to power all of my lights, computer gear, washer/dryer, electric stove, dehumidifier and so on. At this point I would never reach a ROI in my lifetime. The price of these things has to come down a LOT before I jump in with both feet.

Haven’t heard anything back from them yet. Just as a point of reference I have about ~25 of the old model (ugly orange) bulbs in my house and they do not have this same behavior
