(Phantom?) Motion Sensors Added with Trane Thermostats

My wife and I just completed a home renovation and I personally did a new install with a Vera 3 / UI7, a bunch of the (non Vizia) Leviton Z-Wave dimmers and switches (good stuff) and twelve Trane TZEMT400BB3 thermostats controlling four forced hot water and eight radiant (hot water in the floor) zones. (I bought and the electrician installed the devices).

When adding the thermostats, a motion sensors also added for some but not all thermostats when I did the pairings. Seven were ultimately added. On the advanced tab, four say that they are controlled by the master bedroom thermostat and three say they are controlled by the playroom thermostat (showing that their “parents” are the device number of the master bedroom and playroom thermostats).

I have about three years experience with these same type of thermostats at my family’s vacation home (I found out about Vera when I was looking for remote thermostat control). The Vera (first a 2-- then I took advantage of the upgrade offer and got a 3) is UI5 and no motion detectors were added when I did the Vera 2 or the Vera 3 pairings.

I’ve read the Trane instructions which make no mention of integrated motion sensor. The only mention of this situation that I found by Google was here: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,25619.msg194601.html#msg194601

Does anyone know why these motion sensors were created? Am I assuming correctly that they are safe to delete? Am I also assuming correctly that the Tranes have no integrated motion sensors?

Thanks. It’s taken me a couple of weeks but I’m pretty happy with the set up so far.

Any ideas? (bump)

I have the same thermostat and there are no motions in the stats. That is a phantom as you suspected. I deleted mine. The stat works fine except reading the temp wrong most of the time. I just checked it from work, I do that to make sure my furnace is working in this cold 20deg weather here on the east coast.

I just had the exact same thing happened to me with my new Vera Edge (just set it up a day ago) but in my case these phantom devices were created by Home Energy Meter. I added it fine and I know for sure it was the only one device (along with two clamps for it) in my basement. Today I checked devices and I see 7 new motion sensors, 1 door/window sensor, and 1 fire detector (!)?? Hey if my HEM came with all those hidden z-wave devices inside I am a happy camper… but I highly doubt it. I deleted them manually and hope they do not come back again. I don’t think it has anything to do with your thermostat, some bug in Vera UI7 since I never had this problem in my Vera Light running UI5.

I just found this post searching for “phantom motion sensors”, because it happened to me too.
I already had two Trane thermostats on my Vera running UI5, and recently upgraded to UI7 (regretting it now).
Three devices are showing up under Motion Sensors, with parent IDs linking back to the two Trane thermostats.
I am just going to delete them but in case others are experiencing this problem I think they are related to the t-stats.

Same thing happened with my SCS317/Horstmann C-Stat several motion sensors appeared, unfortunately I went to delete them and now my thermostat has disappeared! Cue a 160 mile round trip to visit the flat to re-add it. Doh!

Next time Ill just leave them there

I had the same problem after deleting phantom devices. There are a lot. But I’m just leaving them there for now because when I delete them, actual devices disappear also.

Screenshot of phantom devices ;D

Same issue, Trane thermostat phantom motion sensor. Whats weird is I have 3 thermostats and 4 motion sensors. I know its related to the Tranes as I have them in a room by themselves and when I delete the phantom devices they reappear in the same room.

I’m having the same issue with 5 CT100 2gig thermostats. Attached screen.

I have a Honeywell TH8003 thermostat and after the last upgrade I now have 10 (TEN!!!) phantom motion sensors in my devices. All of which are child devices of the one thermostat. I can’t delete them no matter what I do. I’m considering removing the thermostat and then adding it back to see if I can get them to disappear. Has anyone figured this out yet?

Deleting the Thermostat doesnt help, looks like I may have to exclude then re-include which means I have to probably fix some scenes that will break. =(

Any one figure this out? In addition to the phantom motion devices, the recent firmware upgrade made changing of the set point to half degrees…which the t-stat does not take… Yet another fail. About ready to give up on Vera because it can’t even reliably do the simple things.

I have this problem alot. One wall plug created TEN motion sensors. All my relays and dimmers have created 2 motion sensors each! Bloating my whole interface. Any solution for this? I can’t even remove them.

If you search the forum, you will find several threads with the same issue, with different devices… Pretty unhappy with this, as only a full restore (including the zwave network config) seems to do the trick. I was told there is somewhere on the forum some luup code to execute to delete the phantom devices but did not try it yet

But the more we are to raise the issue, the more attention we should expect from MCV/Vera to the matter ???
