Pairing Schlage FE599 w/Edge - Error Getting Manufacturer

Help! I just got a Vera Edge. Trying to pair my Schlage FE599 Lever Lock. It seems to pair and then I it fails at Getting Manufacturer. Was on the phone with support who was very helpful but could not get it to work. Steve left it at, “The lock must be defected”. I had the lock paired and working with my Nexia Bridge and it was working fine. I got the Vera Edge specifically to use this lock and termination my relationship with Nexia. Can anyone help?

What firmware is on the lock?
Does the lock establish a link with your edge?
I understand you can update the firmware with you Nexia Bridge.

The older Schlage FE599’s do not have update able firmware and have a bug that does not identify the need for secure beaming to the lock or don’t use beaming correctly (not really sure). I have used these locks on Vera, Alarm.com and Nexia home. The only one that does it right is Nexia (which is partner/sister company to Schlage… so makes sense). That means that most controllers (like the Vera) will attempt to send codes to the lock through neighbors in the zwave mesh and will fail.

I have gotten the Schlage to work with both Alarm.com and Vera, but the trick is that you have to get the lock to only talk directly to the the Vera, if it attempts to route talk through another node, it will fail. If you have it enrolled enough in the Vera that it is showing up as a device. Try to manually edit the route so that it will only attempt to talk directly to the Vera, and the problems should go away.

they way I have done it in the past, it is start no zwaves devices enrolled, enroll your locks first (should succeed) then if needed edit the routes so that they never talk to any new neighbors. then enroll all your other devices. If you locks are too far away from the Vera to talk directly you are out of luck.

I have heard that UI5 works better for the old Schlages but I have a Vera Edge so have never been able to test it.

I’m having the exact same problem. I just picked up the Vera Edge, and cannot enroll the FE599, it just blinks red and makes the sounds that it didn’t enroll…nothing is shown on the Vera Edge UI.

Anyone know how to make it work? If it doesn’t, it’s a deal breaker.

Are you getting the same manufacturer error or just a red light? Red light usually means the lock was already enrolled with a different zwave controller. Try doing an unpair first or using the retry in the add device wizard to unpair the device. Also locks must be close to the Vera on include since they are a secure device. And as I mentioned earlier the 599 doesn’t like neighbors, if you are just getting started try adding the lock before any other zwave devices are added.

Just the red light. I did unenroll it and factory reset it from Nexia before trying to add it to the Vera Edge.

I re-read your reply, and thank you, it apparently worked. I went to the device exclusion screen and that did it, during the “add generic device”
