Has openLuup_reload ever worked? Did you make it executable?
# chmod a+x openLuup_reload
Or possibly you’re using a different account now from when you set up your /etc/cmh-ludl/ directory.
the chmod worked but now that moves me into another problem
I did the sym links and checked that they are there so I started the commissioning process.
only error is the UI7 icon directory is missing. (I run UI5 so that should be ok?)
I did the reset/restart. Tested the Port 80 server and get file not found. However my apache2 server is running on port 80 (says below the file not found error) Also other alias same thing which means the sym link is not working. However it is there and I used your ln command to create it.

No, not quite. openLuup emulates UI7 and it’s possible that some plugins will look for icons there. Equally some may also look in the UI5 location… it’s all a bit of a mess the way Vera handled the transition between UI5 and UI7. Best to have both working, but in fact the only thing that happens if the link is missing is that you don’t see your icons. I run like this all the time in my development environment on a Mac.

So this is fine (apart from the file not found due to an incorrect link). What is says here is true:
You also need to ensure that the port:80 HTTP server on your system (I assume you have one running, perhaps Apache?) sees the /www/cmh/ directory you created above from its server host directory. On my BeagleBone Black, with its native server (cloud9, not Apache) this is done with
[tt] > ln -s /www/cmh /var/lib/cloud9/[/tt]
Your system may well be different.
openLuup has to use the existing port 80 server on the system (otherwise you couldn’t use the system for anything else.) The trick, then, is to configure Apache, in this case, to see the relevant directory. Strangely, none of my test systems (aside from a Mac, which is different again) use Apache, so I’m not familiar with exactly what’s needed. Several folk on this thread should be able to help though.
I stopped at this point.
It should be fine to carry on - almost everything but the icons should work OK, until your want to run a plugin which requires both direct access to /www/… and HTTP port 80 access to that path. DataYours happens to be one of those. At that point you would need to get the links set up correctly.
I haven’t installed Debian before, does it use opkg or aptitude for package installs ? If it uses aptitude then I’ll see if I can find my write up for Ubuntu, it would help you get through some of the issues. Also, as Akbooer has indicated, most of us are using a different web server. I for one opted for Lighttpd on all my installs (Ubuntu Server, Mate, OpenWrt etc.) and have been very successful. I recall running into issues with Apache and I didn’t pursue, rather removed it and chose the path of least resistance (and one used by Vera).
Let me know about Aptitude/opkg (pretty sure it’s aptitude).
Thanks guys. Yes, it is aptitude. First I’ll try to configure Apache to point to the directory, but if this proves an issue for me then maybe I should remove Apache and just go with Lighttpd. Then give it all another try.
I’m not too experienced with linux so I’m kinda flying blind.
I do need to run some plugins, especially DataYours and have it writing directly to the pi. Like you all, my Vera goes into self destruct when I use it for much more than managing devices. I would like to only keep PLEG on the Vera and move everything else. Vera seems happy enough with PLEG.
The write up was intended for those that had very little familiarity with Linux so no worries. I’ll be in the office in a little while, I’ll dig up the last version I had that was used by a few here and send it directly to you via PM…

Thanks CudaNet. Since my last post I did go ahead and removed Apache. I installed Lighttpd in it’s place, so at this point I need to set it up to work. If you could point me in the right direction, it would be a big help.
It did mention that to enable a user directory I would use the command “lighty-enable-mod userdir” Make sense to you?
I’m at work and was able to locate the instructions (thought I had deleted them). I just want to look this over and add a couple of things I know you’ll need to retain your sanity…
