Offloading plugins to make upgrading simpler

Another question for you all!

I’m still on UI5 - and like many I assume, looking at the plus as the next box, with high hopes for future-proofing next-gen Zwave as well as ZigBee, etc.

Today, I have probably close to 70+ zwave devices, and at least 20 plugins - all work pretty well. Random reboots, but nothing major. But I know that at some point I need to make the move.

My thought is, but moving all the plugins to OpenLuup first… and making sure it’s all running - THEN moving my Vera3 to a VeraPlus and UI7; might give me a better chance of keeping my production environment running.

Does this make sense as well? What am I missing?

Oh… and one last question… What about Imperihome. My use is extensive. It actually supports several plugins now that I use (eg. Sonos, Virtual Switch)… any issues there?

Thanks guys!

I suppose it depends on your long-term expectations for the Plus, in terms of memory and stability. I’ve not really followed those discussions, since that’s not the direction that I’m going. However, if openLuup supports the plugins that you need, then it certainly doesn’t care what Veras it bridges to, in terms of UI5/7 or Lite/Edge/Plus, whatever. If all your have on Vera in the end is connections to hardware devices then I imagine that does maximize your chance of stability.

Perhaps a list of the plugins you’re interested in having work? As for Imperihome, I don’t use it myself, being a HomeWave fan, but I think that in local mode all would be fine. For remote login, there’s talk of HomeWave considering a weaved.com connector for direct openLuup connection. An alternative is the sort of thing which @logread has prototyped here http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,36971.0.html, and which is on the list for a more extensive implementation in the VeraBridge, as per the roadmap here http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,34476.msg275504.html#msg275504. This would mean that selected openLuup devices can be seen (but not controlled) on a Vera, even with remote login.
