Notifications when locks opened without codes?

The Kwikset lever will communicate with the micasaverde2 whenever someone enters a code or manually turns from the inside the lock/unlock button on the lever, however, there’s no need to manually unlock since it’s always able to open from the inside, and there is no communication to the vera when someone just opens the door from the inside.

Why couldn’t they put a simple sensor on the lever itself that would trigger a(door open/closed) event every time it was pushed…or even better, every time the little (lever) bolt is retracted to open and retracted while door is being closed. (I have a vacation rental and want to know when my guest checks-out without using a separate door sensor) This seems like it would have been easy to integrate this with their levers.

Is there anyway to have the Vera notify the owner if a lock is opened using a key (or by being picked…) or by use of the manual level on the inside of the lock? From my own testing, it seems notifications only work if the lock is opened using an electronic code.

Won’t a door sensor work to show the door has opened?

Probably, but door sensors aren’t cheap, so I would prefer to do it with the equipment I already have if it is possible.
