Notification when Energy Consumption Drops Below a Given Point

I’m looking for an energy monitoring plug, but not for a typical use. The buzzer on our dryer is really quiet and can’t be heard from the basement. I was thinking about using a z-wave appliance plugin module that monitors energy consumption, and then having vera send a notification when the energy consumption drops below a certain level for a certain amount of time.

Has anyone done this before? Would it be possible to program a luup code to do this?

Can anyone recommend a cheap z-wave plugin module that monitors energy? I know the Aeon Labs one is out there, but wasn’t sure if anyone knows of other good ones.

Thanks!

Yep, that will work just fine.

If you don’t need the ability to turn the power on/off remotely then the other option is to get an energy monitoring system that has individual appliance modules. Personally I use the CurrentCost EnviR but there are a couple of others. This is probably an expensive option just to monitor your dryer, but it has other benefits that you might not have known about.
