Not sure what switches I need...

Thanks in advance, and for give my ignorance

Item 1:

I am looking to control a Hunter RF Ceiling fan via my Vera1, I have several basic on/off fans controlled no issue, but for this one, the on/off (and speed) is not controlled via the wall switch. I would be happy with on/off function, though controlling the 3 available speeds would be amazing.

Item 2:

I have a hanging light fixture that uses a transformer, I discovered that even a standard non z-wave dimmer won’t work with it. I assume due to the transformer. What type of z-wave (or even non z-wave if doesn’t exist) do I need to dim it - I get a suntan from it at the moment it’s that bright…

Thanks all.

Is your fan currently switched separately from your light at the wall currently? If it is on its own switch, you can use the leviton VRF01. Or, I think Cooper might make one too.

As for the transformer - take a look at the transformer and identify whether it’s electronic or magnetic? I believe Leviton makes zwave switches for both types.

Thanks woodsby, the fan is on one switch at the wall, and I control the light and fan from the remote. My primary concern is to turn it off when I am away (home/work routine) rather than full control…

I’ll try and see if the light is magnetic or electronic.

As of today there is only one device for fan speed control the VRF01-1L http://smarthome-products.com/p-661-leviton-vrf01-1lx-vizia-rf-15a-scene-capable-quiet-fan-speed-control.aspx which doesn’t control lights - a 2- gang box and using the VRF01-1L to control the fan and a VRI06-1L to control lights has been implemented in many homes. Or you can wait for a while as I saw a couple of in-line Z-Wave modules - dimmer, relay and contact at CES2011 by a couple of different manufacturer’s that were on there way to UL testing - a VRF01 on the wall and a inline dimmer module up in the fan housing, canopy or ceiling and there you go.
