Not always sound with a notification

Hello all ,

Got a bit of a problem with my cellphone and vera alerts.
A Samsung S6 edge running android 5.1.1 and vera alerts version 5.05

All my notifications have a tts and they are all working , but when the screen is locked , sometimes notifications do sound , sometimes there is no sound , the pop- up on the lock screen does always show up.

I cannot find any settings on the app itself.
The setup on the phone > sound and notifications > app notifications>> vera alerts = set as priority.

Anyone know another setting I must change?

Thanks,
Cor

Anyone who has an idea?
It is very annoying that sometimes a notification comes (in sound) and sometimes there is no sound at all. Just a pop up which I won’t know untill I look at my phone.

Thanks,
Cor

Might be a phone settings.

I am still on the Samsung S4 … and only on 5.0.1 … I have never seen a problem like that,

Maybe some new Notification settings for Android ?

@ RichardTSchaefer: I do think it is an phone setting issue , or maybe with the 5.1.1 since on previous S5 there were no issues. But I just can’t find any setting which would help.

Very frustrating

I am trying to sort this out.

The notification is set up like this ( and worked flawlesly with samsung S3, 4 and 5)
When I changed to a S6 from samsung (at least) 1 notification comes in without a sound , the phone does vibrate and I also see the notification come in, in the app. But about 6 out of 10 times the TTS sound does not work.

With Wget , from a computer (Running blue iris for my cameras) , a virtual switch is set to on.
Batch file for wget:
c:\blueiris\wget\wget64.exe “http://10.0.0.10:49451/data_request?id=lu_action&output_format=json&serviceId=urn:upnp-org:serviceId:VSwitch1&DeviceNum=194&action=SetTarget&newTargetValue=1” --delete-after

With PLEG , the switch (device 194) is set back to off and a 120 sec timer is started for not notify again within these 120 seconds.
via PLEG a notification is send.

But with the new S6 the TTS only works intermittently , although I do see always the notification come in in the vera alerts app.

For troubleshooting I tried the following:
-delay switching the virtual switch back to off , by 10 seconds : no effect.
-have a notification on the virtual switch itself (instead of the notification via PLEG) >> no effect

Thanks,
Cor

If the notification is delivered … but the TTS does not work … this is something on the PHONE side … so all of your changes on Vera were not needed.

This is also confirmed by the fact that it worked prior to the change of the phone.

You can turn debug on in the Android Phone … then send me the Log after you capture and example or too …
You may want to turn debug off after sending the log … so that you do not eat up space after that.

Only thing I noticed on my Note 5 is that just like a text message if the app is currently open on the phone it will not alert you as it see your already have that app open.

This shouldn’t do that if the screen locked tho as your not currently using the app.

@ Richard: there were not a lot of changes , just some troubleshooting , but I am stuck. I have really no idea why sometimes I only get the vibration and sometimes vibration and TTS.

I have send you an email with the 'debug"log file , is that the one which can be usefull , or you need one of the other options?

@ Integlikewhoa: it is very wierd , I really don’t get it.

Man, the S6 is just a buggy phone.

But don’t “upgrade” to the Nexus 5X. It’s worse!

Android has really gone downhill :frowning:

I just upgraded to Googles Latest APIs (and their latest development environment). They have some recommended changes for apps written long ago like Vera Alerts.

Let me know if this works any better on these new phones.

Sorry I missed you reply.

Not sure yet , I will keep a close eye on it.

What I did notice though, Near my gate I have 2 cameras ( blue iris) and a motion detector. Via Blue iris I send a wget command to toggle a virtual switch on vera3(ui5), which sends a notification via vera alerts.

Most of the times these 3 alerts comes exactly at the same time, I noticed recently that a notification starts (tts), and than suddenly stops, I think this is when another notification comes in, but than this second ( and third?) notification have no sound.

Can this be a clue?

Thanks,
Cor
