Hi everyone - I’ve been lurking for a couple months as I dove into home automation and bought the Vera and some switches, receptacles, etc. Fun and frustrating! I have worked in IT in the past and normally am not as helpless feeling as I am with some of the instabilities/glitches in the Vera UI & hardware and the necessity to learn this Luup code. There are a couples places mentioned sporadically as having lots of “Luup snippets,” but in reality there are very few and my youngish eyes can barely read some of the ones on the wiki due to choice of font and color, but those gripes for another day!
My immediate need is this - I created a scene that toggles an intake fan and an exhaust fan in my attic in uneven back and forth intervals so that my house maintains overall positive pressure and still moves air through the attics (two connected attics). So it triggers the fans on and off in a pattern for a little over an hour, it runs fine on its own. I then made a trigger to only run the scene when the Weather plugin says my outside temperature is 85deg F or above (eventually I will put in an actual temp sensor in my attic, but more or less this yields similar results).
My problem is this - it sort of seems to work the first time in the day the temp rises up above 85 (but sometimes I swear it is sitting there idle for hours until it finally clicks on and it will be way over 85 by then). And this is the weird part - subsequent triggers of the scene in that same day happen very irregularly. I envisioned it as being in operation anytime the temp was over 85 (actually if it ran 60 out of every 90 min, or something like that, that would be great if it was a continuous hot day). Sometimes it seems to only run once in a day, that first late morning 85deg F reading, sometimes it will run once, maybe twice more, at intervals that have little rhyme or reason.
Should I not even mess with this since I’ll eventually be doing an actual temp sensor, or should I try to fix it in place?
